I did it when it was an available function at the other place. Why? - it allowed you to read in peace - and kept troll attacks down. Trolls would look to see who was reading a forum then launch - knowing they would get an immediate bite.
I sussed it when I had my run-in's with Medium Pace Bowler - who I am convinced is a mod over there. One particular halfwit mod was that thick he hadn't sussed that MPB or any other of his guises only appeared when he was offline. It was entertaining for me to sign in invisible - then go visible, and watch the mod sign out and MPB appear two minutes later. It worked every time.
Prick.
On this forum, the dense halfwit Bilious Barrage was another example - a known troll, and may I add wife beater, who when invited to join this forum signed up as a troll FIRST! then signed up with his regular name.
Another prick.
Forumology is a great thing when you suss it out. So the answer is watching the movement of members can help you spot trolls - and you can't be spotted when invisible.
