If the internet sales go up when you are in Scotland then you have a real problem. Better check first before the meeting.
In my favour, the Internet side of the business is entirely down to me - so any sales generated from that are marked against my column so to speak.
The directors already accept I don't need to be here to do that. What they value is my contract negotiating experience, and to be fair I nee to be here to do that. I don't have a problem with working till December then taking off for three months. When my fiftieth birthday arrives next March it might be a different issue - You are in a good position to be in. You have a skill they need, recorded revenue and it would seem from past statements the financial ability to walk anytime you want to. Thousands would envy you.

I spent the first half of my adult life to date thinking that marriage was for life - and I've spent the second half realizing I can rely on myself better than others. I have a lot of empathy for people breaking up at this ( my ) age now - it's a blow that takes time to recover from.
I'd be annoyed at myself going into retirement with no cash and a basic pension - far too many people do it and live restricted lives.

Havent read all the replies, my answer would be, do you enjoy what you are doing? If the answer is yes, then carry on. If the answer is no, be proactive.
Friend of mine could retire yesterday, financially set up. His problem is, he has been institutionalised and doesnt know what he would do with his time. He is bored senseless at work and the pressure is killing him. I told him to spend it with his wife and kids.
I know other guys who suffer from "the place would fall apart without me" syndrome.
A decision only you can make, because only you know what you want out of life.

True - I'd be happy spending winter in warm climes and summer working in Scotland.
Decision made - thanks very much.

Sorry,i was going to give some input, but when i re-read the thread,i realised it was about golden handcuffs, where i thought it was about a golden shower,i am of course talking about the tree that is in full bloom all over Thailand at the moment, not the other one,not that i know anything about that, though i did have a friend who went to Pattaya once....

You reach a point in your life, when its nothing to do with money, its quality of life that matters. Was offered a job overseas recently, it fell down on the second question, how many days holiday, answer 20, my answer, sorry no thanx, we aint talking peanuts of a salary either.
