My Luxembourg broker, Internaxx, is asking for proof of address in Latin script. They say they will accept:
- Bank statement - Driving licence - Utility bill
Thai banks generally don't issue bank statements, and anyway, the address they have for me is in Thai script. (It's also user-editable online, so is actually meaningless.)
My driving licence address is in Thai.
No utility bills are in my name since I don't have a tabian baan.
Any thoughts on what I could do?
I had wondered about trying to get some correspondence from HMRC (UK tax man). Not sure what I should ask for, though.
The British Embassy is useless since that's only an affirmation of address, and in no way is proof.
I'm a bit stumped.

Check if they will accept the affirmation with it's envelope sent by the embassy to your address.

This proves your address fairly well.

Some suggestions: 1) Banks have various standard forms that you can request them to certify various information, for various purposes, in particular how long you've held an account with them. These can be done in English. People often request a reference letter or similar to open bank accounts in other countries. Just get one of these and ensure it has your address in English script which you write out for them 2)Take an example of what you want into your bank. For my visa extension Stan Chart used to issue me the bank letter in English. When I switched to using TMB for visa purposes I took the same letter in and asked them to do exactly the same info for the same reason, again in English. They typed it into Word, printed it out and stamped and signed it while I sat waiting. Cost is 100 baht. I didn't bother with my address as immigration don't ask for it on the bank letter. However, I see no reason why you couldn't add to put your address on there in English, and tell them you want it for your visa Here's an example: 3)The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will certify translations of documents for you. So if acceptable to Internax, go to the MoFA building get a translation, and have MoFA certify it. We've done this on various documents for various purposes. Worth getting there early and paying for the express same day service, otherwise you need a trip back again. Never done a driving licence but as an official document that's likely something they'd cover --------------------------------------- First bet though, I'd go to your bank and see if they have standard forms you could use. Take with you a hard copy and soft copy in word of what you want typed in English. In both cases they should print on their letterhead paper, stamp it and get someone to sign. MoFA is a bit of a trek and can be time consuming. Also if you don't do express it means going back another day

Will they not accept a legalised translation of one of those docs, with all the fancy "lawyer ribbons & seal" ? I went throught somthing similar trying to open a HSBC account in Jersey some years back, it was like being in Little Britain Sketch..."computer says no"...in the end i asked them would they accept my phone bill with address in Thai script if HSBC Bangkok writes it in English and endorses it HSBC...yes thats fine as long as the bill is in English...at that point i lost thd plot and told them to go forth and multiply... 6 months later, email from HSBC, we have noted you never progessed opening and account with us...and some BS about customer services and wanting to serve existing and new customers...never did get an answer when i replied stating they should kiss my arse... Nearly 15 years with Citi Singapore and never a minutes issue with them all these years

My bank Krung Sri has a bog standard form request application form, with about 4 different options, plus the choice of english or thai, costs 100 baht. That would be my fist port of call. Option 2, knock up a letter on your computer save on a flash drive (fat die in thai), head to your local bank and ask if they could type it up on bank headed notepaper, get the bank to stamp the letter and enclose the managers name card. Option 3, do the above, but head to your local police station and ask for the same, a bottle of 100 pipers should get the job done. Option 4, head to Brit house and ask for a proof of residence, take your thai d/l and any correspondcence thai with your address on it. Option 5, head to immi at CW ask for a residence certificate, costs 200 baht, on arrival take to some translation joint. Read heading, affirnmation of residencey. Read heading, what you will need to bring. I read this, The British Embassy is useless since that's only an affirmation of address, and in no way is proof.I had the same concerns, but got it done at Brit house and printed off the links I gave you, that seemed to satisfy the boxticking jobsworth. Alternatively you could head to a Thai lawyer and get the same thing done.
