I've a feeling this trend will pick up pace in the next few years, as Thailand gets squeezed between cheap labour competitors like Vietnam, Indonesia and knowledge based competitors like Singapore on value add.
Throw in the ability to regularly shoot itself in the foot, and will Thailand still be able to plough on regardless?
---------------------------------------------------------------------- Samsung ends TV production in Thailand SEOUL — South Korean electronics giant Samsung has stopped television production in Thailand.
Production ended in the first quarter, a spokeswoman in Seoul said Thursday.
One reason for the decision was to make production more efficient worldwide, she said.
Samsung is the world's largest producer of smartphones, televisions and memory chips.
The spokeswoman did not reply to the question of whether Samsung had moved television production to Vietnam.
Samsung said last year that it was investing US$560 million in production facilities in southern Vietnam. Air conditioning units and washing machines will also be produced there.
The company still produces washing machines, fridges and aircon units in Thailand, the spokeswoman said.

If it weakens the baht it's a good thing for some people.

More seriously, in a news article over on the dark side was the following additional comment: " South Korea’s LG Electronics Inc, which is second in the global TV market, will also soon move its TV production from Thailand to Vietnam, thanks to cheaper labour costs and closer proximity to Chinese-based suppliers." The exodus has apparently begun! sadly not thelast

Not sure foot is correct.....posibly a more important apendage. If you mean the male part...this requires pretty good shooting skills... And the brain is even smaller on most Thai males I've met. The hubris of many self aggrandised Thais may be coming back to haunt them, I'm surprised it has taken this long.

The harvest of the seeds of the arcane business laws regarding the ration of shares that are or can be held by a foreign investor along with the inward looking protectionist policies that handicap any non Thai business entity along with a poorly educated and in many cases a totally lackadaisical work force and a too strong currency are now coming to maturity and the harvest of those seeds is now starting to be reaped.
Indeed the seeds that were sown so long ago are not it would seem providing the correct hoped for fruitful harvest .
