There's a lot of evidence for Curcumin / Turmeric providing nutritional and therapeutic/medicinal benefits, and something I've read quite a few articles on. It's most recognised for being in Indian curries. I received the email below today, and although in this case it was linked an ad trying to sell a product (which I've cut), and hence not necessarily unbiased, it does have some useful info.
Some of the potential benefits include: reducing inflammation, and alternative pain reduction given the links between inflammation and pain, generally boost/regulate the immune system alleviate arthritis symptoms, cancer etc.
As in the article below though, the body doesn't necessarily easily absorb it though. The "enhancer that provides at least a 500% increase in bioavailability" they are talking about is probably piperine /black pepper, for which you can easily find more info/research elsewhere.
So interesting to consider alongside the drawbacks of paracetemol/ tylenol mentioned on this thread

I take it myself, and think it does help with arthritis among other things. The article below mentions a does of at least 750mg and says some supplements have only 450mg - the answer to that seems pretty simple take 2 x 450mg! and throw on some black pepper. Always wondered what pepper might be for when I was little. I think most things in life have a reason, just we don't always know what they are!
So another reason to have that curry you fancy maybe?
You also have to wonder about if that it's low bioflavability and difficulty your body has absorbing it is linked to some of those other famous curry effects that follow later. Wonder if black pepper would help there too

How "the Most Clinically Studied
Nutritional Herb" Unleashes Extraordinary Healing Possibilities!
Dear Fletch,
Curcumin, a phytochemical extract of the turmeric root, used to be one of the best-kept health secrets in the world. Then—almost overnight—it has become the most widely studied nutritional herb. The National Institutes of Health alone lists 24 clinical studies that prove why curcumin is one of the most sought-after, low-cost, natural supplements that countless people take every day—and why you should, too.
Today, curcumin supplements are "One of the Top 10 Best-Selling Supplements in the U.S.," according to Nutrition Business Journal. Many medical practitioners consider it to be the most effective ... affordable ... all-natural immune system booster available. Unfortunately, not all curcumin supplements live up to the herb's reputation—but when you acquire real, quality curcumin, the health benefits can be astounding.
The Therapeutic and Nutritional Power of Curcumin
Curcumin comes from the turmeric plant, a perennial herb prized in Ayurvedic medicine. This member of the ginger family grows in Southern Asia and the Himalayas. You may recognize turmeric as the gold-colored Indian spice in curry and mustard. Its use dates back 6,000 years to the ancient Egyptian pharaohs and Ayurvedic medical practitioners in India.

Warning: Most Curcumin Supplements are Nothing But
Capsules Filled with "Fool's Gold"
Curcumin may be the gold standard of all health-enhancing herbs, but some manufacturers fill their products with "fool's gold" instead. Many commercially available supplements contain far less than the proper therapeutic serving necessary to deliver powerful health benefits. Inferior curcumin supplements have flooded the market—and most of them cannot be absorbed by the body.
FACT: The human body cannot easily absorb curcumin. Because of curcumin's low bioavailability, curcumin is difficult to absorb when taken orally ... tends to be unstable during the digestive process ... and is rapidly eliminated from the body without being utilized. Therefore, the majority of curcumin supplements are a waste of money!
Spotting the Real Deal
For therapeutic results, health practitioners advise looking for a supplement containing at least 700 milligrams of curcumin. The average curcumin supplement contains only 450-500 milligrams, far less than the concentration needed to deliver spectacular health benefits.
Because curcumin is difficult for the body to absorb, insist on a curcumin supplement with a delivery enhancer that provides at least a 500% increase in bioavailability compared to standard curcumin supplements. It's also important to choose a supplement that has a full-spectrum formulation which means it contains not only curcumin extract, but also pure, whole turmeric root powder to further enhance absorbability). Finally, both the curcumin extract and turmeric root must be 100% certified organic.
Underground Health Reporter has uncovered a groundbreaking, super-potent curcumin supplement that has the most superior potential to restore your body to normal health ... support disease prevention ... and promote longevity.
Wishing you the best of health,
Danica Collins
