Cousin staying in a hotel in Hua Hin asked reception for a taxi from HH to Bkk, quoted, 2800 baht, phoned me, is this acceptable?, is it ferk I told him, who quoted you this price?, just a minute he said, and handed me the phone, blah blah blah, white noise, I will drive from Bkk and pick them up myself.
I believe the going rate in a taxi from the airport to HH is 1600 baht.
Anyway, the mrs gets a treat and I get some recovery time after last weeks trip to Pattaya.

1600 to 1800 Baht I would accept to be honest.
2800 is a total p**stake and ripoff.

I don't mind admitting to a fondness for Hua Hin...some ace Thai restaurants and a quiet pace of life with decently priced 5* hotels.
Works as a good RnR for me.

I hope your fondness stretches to being ripped off for 1200 baht for a sea bass that costs 380 baht in Bkk.
Sea food joint, 5,000 baht for 4 people, same meal in Bkk about 1600 baht.
The mrs refused to eat, gave the old Thai excuse, sore stomach.

Far from it, and I can assure you I am far from being a farang kee nok, nothing to do with money, and all about value for money. The 10k baht per day the mrs and I were burning up was an irrelevance, we had value for money. PS, the story was the abridged version, cant be assed typing the full story, lets just say, it involved my cousin believing a 2 week millionaire and his ex bg isaan princess who though she could gain big face by throwing money around (not hers, I hasten to add) like a drunken sailor on shore leave. |

I will give the Thais their dues, they aint stupid, although the caste system at times has them keep their head down and say nothing, they aint stupid as to what goes on around them. Years ago the mrs and I had a similair problem, the receptionist said nothing, she couldnt due to others around her, she phoned the mrs and I in our room later, she offered to drive us for half the price the following morning when she finished her shift, agreed. Next morning she turned up in a decent Nissan car and drove us, on arrrival I gave her the same price that was quoted (by original taxi), she refused to take it, ( i had to push her to take it) its not the money i told her, its the principal, that girl to this day is still a good friend. |
