With rain like this an umbrella doesn't help much, more like hard hat time "Plane loses its $368 million cargo of gold, platinum and diamonds on takeoff Gems and precious metals rain over Russia’s coldest region as police and secret services stage emergency search. The plane with ten tons of gold, platinum and diamonds lost part of its cargo after taking off from Yakutsk airport today. More rained down as the aircraft gained height. The Nimbus Airlines AN-12 cargo plane hit problems during takeoff; the treasures fell out of the hold all over the runway. Looks like it fell through the floor. Did someone not tell them gold weighs a ton. The loadmaster might be looking for a new job.

I was sat next to a chap on a turboprop and he was throwing up and farting like a train so I asked the hostess if I could swap with one of the many empty seats and she said that the sections were balanced and she would check after take off. I'm not that bloody fat.

I'm not that bloody fat. Airlines are subject to severe weight and balance limitations. The Dash 8 for example is divided into 6 zones for passengers and the balance is calculated according to how they are loaded. There was a 737 in Australia with problems which had to fly with constant downward pressure on the yoke. Turn out there were two rugby teams right down the back. Average weight is calculated at about 70kg but in Australia females must be heavier than this for sure.

A weighty issue. "November, 2017 Why Finnair Is Weighing Some Of Its Passengers Before They Board ... The EASA’s weight estimates put the average male passenger at about 187 pounds and the average female passenger at about 147 pounds. However, passenger weights can vary by nationality, ticket class (for example, men in first class tend to weigh more than those in economy, the BBC reports) and time of year (Finnish passengers usually contribute more weight in winter due to their bulky coats, Tallqvist said). Finnair wants to collect its own data so it can be sure what its own average passenger weighs." www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/airline-weigh-passengers_us_59fb4d54e4b0b0c7fa38b7b8The EASA Survey on standard weights of passengers and baggage A report financed by EASA, November 2009 www.easa.europa.eu/sites/default/files/dfu/Weight%20Survey%20R20090095%20Final.pdfTable D-15, D-17 are interesting, an average weight of 88 - 92 kg with carry-on luggage for men, around 72 for women.
