As we all know climate changes brings new issues and challenges. Not to worry though PM Prayut and his cabinet have ordered plans to make best use of this thing called flooding "As floods loom, control plan ordered PM to hear proposals in coming weeks ... Gen Chatchai said Nan, Phrae, Phetchabun, Prachin Buri, Chanthaburi and Phangnga could face flooding in June; Chiang Mai and Ubon Ratchathani from June-July; Lampang and Phitsanulok from July-August;and Phrae, Sukhothai, Nakhon Sawan and Uthai Thani from August-September. Also, Phrae, Sukhothai, Chai Nat, Sing Buri, Ang Thong and Ayutthaya could experience flooding from September-October; Pathum Thani, Nonthaburi, Songkhla and Bangkok from October-November; and Songkhla and Nakhon Sri Thammarat from November-December. ..." It's now seven years since the catastrophic floods of 2011 and virtually nothing has been done. Bangkok still floods after every thunderstorm. Klongs are still encroached upon, full of rubbish.
The authorities here have very short memories. The Asian tsunami of 2004 left thousands dead in Thailand. Yes, a tsunami warning system was set up, but now it's broken and useless.
Is there nothing that will spur the authorities to make and keep the people and country safe from avoidable natural disasters?
