It often seems as though sometimes owning your home can be full of problems, take up lots of time and effort and be plain hard work. But the opposite of that, which is what you're asking about, could easily mean that you have far too much time on your hands plus you wont be able to control the space around you - little control over neighbours, no control over future cost increases, you can't personalise your living space very much plus what do you do once you get tired of the view from your single window, there isn't another room to walk into to change the view.

I sometimes miss my condo. which was very easy to live in, no projects to do, no things to repair, nothing to decorate very often. But then I wonder what I'd be doing if I still lived there and getting bored is probably the answer! I like the idea that where I am currently I can take a walk around the garden, prune and plant stuff and generally enjoy it. I also get a sad kick out of seeing how small my utility bills are, under 100 baht for water and always under 1,000 for 'leccie, that's quite satisfying in a bizarre sort of way. And having spent many years at a time living in very nice hotels that have all the things you describe in your post, I know for certain that the day will come when rgs says, hmm, I fancy some beans on toast or a peanut butter sandwich or similar, try getting those things downstairs in the restaurant, ha!

I vote that you stay where you are and that you ask one of your friends to come round and give you a couple of slaps, just to get this idea firmly out of your head.....I'm free on Wednesday for an hour, if you like.

This is some years in the future, was thinking on doing a 2 on 1 off rotation, Chaing Mai for two, back to Bkk for 1, Bang Saen for 2, back to Bkk for 1, Chanthaburi for 2 back to Bkk for 1, you get the drift.

CM you are correct, just spent about 200,000 baht on upgrades etc, the days of me going 20 foot up on a ladder are gone, would rather drink bia and watch somchai risking life and limb to change a light bulb, all for 50 baht.

The other week the mrs had the local motorcycle guys in to catch a snake, 20 baht, think it was skinned and bbqd in less than 10 minutes.

Oldie, I have one already, see another thread, I know when the mrs is p**sed off with someone she has this blasting out full blast.

I probably wouldn't mind a box as long as it was on ground level with a small garden to walk into. I've seen too many people (especially older people) who would get into a mood of 'whybother to dress up and go down for some bite of this or that'. Tends to eat at the soul and many don't last long even if they don't take a shortcut to groundfloor level.

Sitting in your own small garden (kept or not), or amongst people (friend or strangers) seem to have a positive effect on most. Of course, for those who are somewhat 'lonely' or 'alone' a box is a sure way to a short life.

^^^ oldie, all the places I mention, the mrs and I have visited more than once, get bored with the view, simple solution, change rooms.

As for older people, well I see it too many times here in Bkk, an addition to the house, coz oldies can no longer make it upstairs, hence build an addition.

None of us are getting any younger, thinking to the future, the mrs is a diamond, keeps a clean house, but the time will come when she is no longer able to do so, hence live in a box and let someone else do all the work.

I could do long time in a 350baht a night room overlooking khao San road.
Wake up at noon. Wander down and get some fish to nibble my feet, slow non erotic massage, some Indian chow and live music, drop off the laundry, couple of beers....
Don't think the Mrs will put up with it for too long, but why not.
