In Australia we have the "Grey nomads" Cashed up retirees dragging a $60 000 box around behind a $50 000 four wheel drive and paying $80 a night to park it somewhere with a communal toilet and shower block. Thousands of them. Why? Plus registration, insurance, maintenance, excess fuel etc etc etc. You can get a motel for $130 a night with all the perks.

I had a friend who bought a caravan for about $40 000 and sold it 12 years later for $16 000. As the new owner was towing it away he said "we have had a lot of fun with that van and gone a lot of places" I replied "do you know how many trips to Europe you could have had for $24 000?" The penny dropped.

Sounds like you need a holiday in Wythenshawe RGS.
Nice lawns down there in summer, very multi-cultural too
Food outlets per capita not too many though

$30 a night might get an unpowered tent site around here. $70 will get a powered site. $90 for a motel.

With free bedbugs. Most of this category are doing rather little travelling. They tend to move to a city and stay for a month or more seeing their children and grandchildren who are living in that city then move to the next. A day or a week in a hotel may be acceptible but not for permanent living. A caravan can have most of the comforts of home. Towing costs are high but so is air travel in Australia.

Would love to bump into her again.
