John Volanthen (pictured) and his fellow diver Jason Mallinson have both been offered free flights to Thailand for life.
They deserve it

A nice gesture which does show appreciation of the work these two did with the rest of the rescue team and also recognition of the ''foreigners '' help and assistance that was part of that rescue team.

The George Cross is the highest civilian honour in the United Kingdom and Commonwealth.
Others called for the pair to be given knighthoods for their "heroic efforts".
Businesswoman Tracey Follows tweeted: "Knighthoods for the British divers involved please. True bravery and superhero status.
And why not....people in the UK get knighthoods for kicking a pigs bladder being an incompetant politian or a "celebrity"
These gents should be glad this rescue never happened in the UK as the HSE or some other jobsworthy fwits would trying to lay criminal charges against the rescuers for something

A news conference held with the 8 divers at Heathrow. They may as well have held it on the runway. Rick Stanton clearly irritated with a couple of questions.

I think Rick Stanton stepped a little out of line. He considered himself in Charge. The British Caving Group that was asked to send help sent three divers with none of them being stated as in charge. It was a well ran operation by the Thais who used all resources well. |
