"Some have spent up to A$10,000 per truckload of hay just to feed their animals, according to Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull"
Hard to believe there is no fields of grass in Oz ready for cutting and drying to animal feed. If the article is correct it would be cheaper(and more fun - good profit potential making viral vids) to feed them premium kush.

Not really hard to believe. Same in Europe "The lack of feed that this extended dry spell has caused means that some farmers are increasingly slaughtering stock rather than buying feed for them. The E.U. has waived rules that require a proportion of pastureland to be left fallow for a time to increase biodiversity, and cow slaughtering in Germany has gone up by 21 percent compared to the same period last year." www.citylab.com/environment/2018/08/european-heatwave-animals/566741/

It says something for the old days when the drovers used to take their animals to feed not the other way around. Meantime in parts of Oz they are slashing grass and leaving in on the ground to rot. I can't drive to work without dodging 30 bloody kangaroos.
