Under black economic empowerment rules, South African companies are required to meet quotas on black ownership, employment and procurement as part of a drive to reverse decades of exclusion under apartheid. At one point in time, SASOL had some of the best technically skilled people in the world, who regular won awards at the World Skills championships...ie sparkies, welders, engineers etc.... |

^^| The latest news I read on a Dutch site really surprised me. It talks about 'persons with light skin colour' and 'persons with dark skin colour'. Whatever happened with 'blanken en zwarten, or negers? "Personeel met lichte huidskleur Zuid-Afrikaans oliebedrijf staakt om 'discriminatie' De Zuid-Afrikaanse vakbond Solidarity heeft een staking afgekondigd bij petrochemiebedrijf Sasol. Aanleiding is een project waarbij aandelen in het bedrijf uitsluitend aan werknemers met een donkere huidskleur worden aangeboden. Solidarity vertegenwoordigt hoofdzakelijk Zuid-Afrikanen met een lichte huidskleur. De bond zegt dat het aandelenprogramma bij Stasol neerkomt op ''regelrechte discriminatie''. Het programma maakt deel uit van overheidsbeleid om de positie van Zuid-Afrikanen met een donkere huidskleur bij grote bedrijven te verbeteren.
