SOUTH AFRICA BECOMES LATEST COUNTRY TO LEGALIZE PRIVATE MARIJUANA USE South Africa’s constitutional court ruled on Tuesday that the private use of marijuana must be legal. “It will not be a criminal offense for an adult person to use or be in possession of cannabis in private for his or her personal consumption,” Deputy Chief Justice Raymond Zondo said. He added that the previous law banning the use of marijuana was “unconstitutional and therefore invalid,” according to The Telegraph. www.newsweek.com/where-africa-marijuana-legal-south-africa-legalizes-private-use-1127204

"previous law banning the use of marijuana was “unconstitutional and therefore invalid" ?
Sounds nice, but I think it's more that society slowly moved to accept private use of marijuana and the law just took a bit longer to document that change in legal terms. Seems more a formalisation of an existing, accepted situation.

Truth be told society there has pretty much always accepted the private use of marijuana, usage in private has been common for my whole time growing up in SA, given it grows so easily there ..so your correct on your observation But the good thing that may come out of this is thd possible reduction in violent crime as now large numbers of violent criminals can get legally stoned .
