predictable update. Jihadi's family now claim he had drink and drugs problems and had recently split up with his burqa clad wife (did he say I divorce you 3 times?) and this organized premeditated rampage and terror spree was just him letting off a bit of steam.

^^great we are for once in total agreement. However I doubt that downplaying ISLAMIC terrorism by waffling on about drink, drugs and divorces will help "understand,adjust, prevent" would you not agree.
To adjust and prevent would require reading the islamic scriptures to understand where the jihad begins, and act by closing each and every mosque and booting out those that just cannot live in a free and fair society. However, the PC brigade are well and truly blocking any logical response to the growing terror muslims are causing.
I find it unbearable that "authorities" knew this family were strict muslims and posed a direct terror threat, and yet they were still allowed to cause havoc like this. In my mind the authorities that appeased this scumbag family are just as guilty of murder as the jihadi was.

The need some see to stress ISLAMIC already shows a bit of reluctance to understand. It's as if there's a suggestion that any type of terrorism is OK but not when it's ISLAMIC.
Leftish radicals, rightish radicals, Catholics or Protestants, Buddhists, the only groups who legitimately can perform acts of TERROR?
I think there's a lot of xenophobia involved apart from the need some feel to demonise others for whatever ails them themselves. IMHO.
