Former Bangkok metropolitan police chief Kamronwit Thoopkrachang remained in custody in Japan Wednesday after he was detained at Narita International Airport in Japan earlier this week for having a gun and ammunition in possession. Kamronwit reportedly told Japanese authorities that he forgot that he had the gun and ammunition in his bag. Thai police spokesman Prawut Thawornsiri said Wednesday that a decision was expected from Japanese authorities soon on whether they would indict the former police chief. He added that the offence carries a maximum prison term of 10 years in Japan, but Kamronwit would be allowed to return to Thailand immediately if not indicted. Kamronwit arrived in Japan on June 18 and was about to fly back to Thailand on June 22 when he was detained at the airport. It was not clear whether he had brought the firearm into Japan when he arrived. The ‘Bangkok Post’ reported Wednesday that the former police chief had gone through all the normal security procedures at Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport when he departed for Japan. Hilarious this. What else did he forget he had? Elsewhere, five Thai students are still in custody in Pakistan after attempting to carry a handgun, magazine, and ammunition onto a plane bound for Bangkok. asiancorrespondent.com/133775/ex-bangkok-police-chief-held-in-japan-after-forgetting-he-had-gun/

What was he thinking or not thinking? Bringing a gun and ammo to Japan. For 'personal use' no doubt. .

Amazing - "did you pack your own bag sir?"
"Yes."
"Any dangerous goods."
"Donno, I've got a bad memory."
Do you have a link to the five students story?

m.bangkok.coconuts.co/2015/06/15/five-thai-students-still-held-pakistanPakistani authorities have yet to release the five Thai students arrested at the Lahore Airport last week for attempting to board a plane home with a pistol and six bullets. The students, all but one of whom are between 17 and 20, are still in custody today, contrary to earlier reports they would arrive in Thailand on Friday, according to Sek Wannamethee, Foreign Ministry spokesman. The Thai government has not received any confirmation when the students will be released but is monitoring the situation and will follow legal procedures, said government spokesman Sansern Kaewkamnerd. Sansern added there is no evidence that the students have any link to the Islamic State. "We have no evidence of any links between the students and any criminal organisation, so news that there is a link between ISIS and the students is not true," he told The Nation. The students, whose identities have been withheld, are from the provinces of Pattani, Krabi, Songkhla, Trang and Chachoengsao. They had been studying at a religious school in Pakistan before trying to board Thai Airways flight to Bangkok on June 8. Their families are convinced their sons are innocent. Mother of the fifth student, a 28-year-old from Pattani, told Thai PBS Friday she spoke to her son by phone prior to his scheduled flight. She said he told her a teacher had asked him to pass on a mysterious box to a friend in Malaysia, but the student did not open the box. The mother believes the box contains the .32-caliber pistol that got him in trouble. Meanwhile, Royal Thai Army commander Gen. Udomdej Sitabutr said the weapon may have been intended on for “personal use” because it is a small gun that couldn’t pose a major security threat. "While carrying a gun is illegal, but judging from the case, the gun might have been for personal use. It is an area that guns can be obtained easily. The person probably did not know better," he said.

He is really in the poo now, said firearm is unregistered as well, woops
He might have gotten away with the "honest mistake" if it was registered to him, but its illegal as well so another "charge" against him
What a dumb arse
Know we have some ex coppers on here so how many charges you think they are putting on him ?
Answers on a very large post card please

''Doubt there will be charges,a lot of behind closed doors chats going on'' I would say, also the relationship twixt Japan and Thailand is a cosy one. However possibly given the accused track record of friendship and political affiliations with an exiled Thai there may be a bit of content lurking in the background that will perhaps ensure he is hung out to dry courtesy of the current administrations policies. The whole affair is indeed about as clear as the mud that is left after we drain our fish ponds on the farm.
