Reading comments here I get the impression that some would call Maggie lucky she could depend on the British Army rather than needing outside help when the British miners were righteously protesting (allegedly that is). ADD: Maggie only thought of using the Military but in the end she didn't. Seems the NRC based at Scotland Yard with Metropolitan Police Officers was used instead.

Anyway, it would seem that the protests against extra tax on petrol and especially diesel has a few reasons. Some protest against tax rises anyhow, some because people in the country side are more hit by these higher prices than people in the cities. The government defended the extra tax rise on diesel as part of the commitment to reduce CO2 and other harmful substances diesel is now associated with.

I guess that means those in Paris are just concerned for their fellow citizens in the country side and the 'Greens' may still be in dubio as they would like to abolish diesel completely. The right side endorsed the protests if only because they're against Macron. Even Marie le Pen praised them and her father put on a yellow jacket.
