A guy who has been screwing Sopha's sister, and is married. He turns up last night and complains about her being a butterfly. Actually she goes way past a butterfly. I just found this guy's complaint funny.

Nope they don't, they don't understand sarcasm either.
Or any humour that requires a little bit of thought, to be honest, without sound effects, most pretty much don't understand anything that is going on around them.
It's all about themselves, no thought is given to how others may feel, and how their actions can affect the actions of others.
It's not just Thais though, anyone raised in believing that they are the most important thing in the room, will behave in exactly the same way.
The problem here is that the system drills that attitude in to them every school day, starting at 8am. Not really a problem in the playground, but in adult life, when one of them is in a tough situation and needs to blame someone else, their brain goes into a DIV#0 loop, as they are all perfect individuals.
Unless there is a woman around, then they become the target, every time.

Seems to me our Thai "hosts" understand steel pipe rather well,
from reading news reports. can't be too sure about irony though...
