On TIPs articles like the following are worth a read for another perspective: highlighting correlation issues re US treasuries generally and longer duration than you might currently like to have in bond funds.

Thanks for the replies.
AvG - yes agree with the general global issue of rock bottum interest rates and the effect on bonds.
Fletchsmile - which banks do you consider best/good for cash deposit rates?

The duration issue with TIPS is well known. I had wondered whether I'd be better off with an actively managed fund with shorter duration rather than ETFs, but decided no on grounds of charges. The Lord Abbett alternative of using an actively managed fund of CPI swaps scares the bejesus out of me.

Fletchsmile - which banks do you consider best/good for cash deposit rates? We used to have a thread on best bank interest rates. It hasn't been updated in a while though now.
Not much has changed though, so would sum up:
- Look for the promotions and non-standard periods rather than the ordinary deposits
- TMB No fixed and Krungsri/BAY's Mae Tae Dee have been consistently 2 of the better accounts. Nothing is giving fantastic rates, but these 2 are always up there
- StanChart is no longer a player in Thai retail
