Bought a new desktop computer recently - Last time I bought a desk top was 5-6 years ago.
Love the new SSD which are available these days.
Couldn't make my mind up to whether to go for the new SSDs or older style Hard Disk. Gigabyte for Gigabyte the SSDs are more expensive and seemed to be smaller sizes - only 120/240/480 GB compared to 500GB 1TB etc for HDD.
So I went for SDD 240 GB as the main disk for OS/ programmes etc + 1TB HDD for data storage. Cost me only THB 1,450 more than to have just the 1 TB HDD alone.
The SDD is so much quicker. Particularly on boot up. No more turn it on then go make a coffee. Seems to take about 10 seconds. Just had our first powercut with it - electric went off and on a few seconds later. Didn't seem to bother the SDD at all. Quick reboot and back to work. Love it

I had a HP EliteBook 840 with 500Gb HDD and 32Gb SSD which was setup as cache. Wonderful!. As reliability is concerned, SSD is about as good as HDD assuming you don't buy the cheapest possible. Also note that for storage some SSD's might need to be powered-on 'regularly' to improve it's lifetime (once/twice a year). Use SSD for your OS, boot from it and so. Use HDD for storage. NOTE: still need backup just to be sure! There was a time we'd have at least three tapes for 'now', 'last week', two weeks ago'. What with prices of USB memory sticks just buy a few 64Gb ones. NOTE2: every once in a while check you can read your backup! AS a side note: I still have a USB 1.1 128Mb memory stick I bought in 2002. Big in physical size. Works though

^^^ Yeah, but that one's much more boring. It doesn't have shiny lights on the outside which can glow in all sorts of different colours, and even has a "water flow" effect - something I look for in all my computer storage.

BTW did you already buy Nike Adapt Self-Lacing Basketball Sneakers? Tons of electronics (figure of speech that is) and you (or others) can control them via your mobile phone!

You may jest, but recently I emailed IKEA Thailand asking whether they were going to stock IKEA's TRÅDFRI light bulbs which can be remotely controlled and change colour. The answer was "no". Now I'm looking at Xiami's Color Yeelight LED Bulb, which can be controlled over WiFi via an app on one's mobile 'phone. www.yeelight.com/en_US/product/wifi-led-cI think this is a really exciting technology. And it's finally becoming affordable.

Way cheaper over here in blighty, which is very surprising.
A full 95 quid or B3,890.69 cheaper, for the same model.
They ship worldwide too, and have a Royal Warrant of Appointment.

BTW for those who prefer some fast storage in their 'hand held' device. Only about US$500 it's expected to cost. "The tiny SanDisk 1TB microSD cards are breaking speed records An entire terabyte of data can now fit on a microSD card — and now data can be recorded as fast as 160MB per second. On Monday, February 25, Western Digital announced the 1TB SanDisk Extreme UHS-I microSDXC card during Mobile World Congress. While the new microSD is not the first to reach that 1TB capacity, the company says the new card is the fastest 1 TB UHS-1 microSD card yet. Micron also launched a 1TB card, joining Lexar’s 1 TB announced earlier this year." www.digitaltrends.com/mobile/western-digital-fastest-1-tb-microsd-mwc-2019/
