free at 33, yeah right, bouncing around asia going from one third world country to another, throwing away your peak earning years for less than a teflr or paper boys salary. Well done on accumulating the capital, free from what? If you cant afford to retire in your home country, you cant afford to retire here. www.mrfreeat33.com/portfolio/Even if you marry a Thai woman, you dont have the income to live here.

Retiring on less than $14K a year? He reminds me of those multi level marketing companies from the eighties.

I subscribe to the school of thought, there is nothing new under the sun, whatever happened to the digital pikey vloggers and their retire to Thailand on $500 a month, immi kicked thier cheap ass out the country, now they can be found elsewhere bad mouthing this place, effin millenials and their sense of entitlement, usually gobbing off with daddys credit card to back them up, easily spotted, man bun, fishermans pants, wife beater and elephant hair wrist band.

FireinTH showed me a link to this guy a while back.
I hope for Mr.33's sake he makes more out of his books and coaching sessions than he does from his dividend portfolio.

His article below made me laugh. He has a point in there about quality of life and cost of living it, but on the whole the rest of his article is pretty naive. I'd say my best investment in terms of ROI beats his plane ticket.... ...... Vasectomy after 2nd child. Cost: THB 15,000 at Bumrungrad. Deliberately chose Bangkok's finest as it's not something to remotely consider being a cheap Charlie on. Thailand International School Fees Saved on 3rd child and thereafter: est THB 10 million. University Fees saved: Estimated 4 million. Other ubringing costs for at least 22 years = ball park THB 6.6 million (25k a month/300k a year probably being on the low side). Total return of expenses saved = at least THB 20 million per child, so well over 130,000% ...

Ridiculous.
Total investments of $394,782.87 is nowhere near enough to retire on in Thailand. And unexpected expenditure could wipe that out.
Having income only in USD leaves him painfully exposed to the THB/USD exchange rate.
The last few years have been extremely good for the US stock markets giving healthy capital appreciation. That's most unlikely to continue for much longer.
How can he be so deluded that he think he has anything worth passing on as financial advice?
Oh, and how on earth can he possibly adequately monitor a portfolio of 121 stocks? Even 21 would be a significant challenge.

I hope he has a vasectomy before his first kid. In one of his blogs somewhere I believe he already has. He decided he doesn't want kids.
Debatable whether or not that's a good decision to make for someone in their early 30's.
Sounds like a good decision though from any potential kids perspective

I agree with everything said here about his situation. I wrote an article (without naming him) that gives counter-arguments to a lot of his claims. He's selling the dream to the uneducated. His new book '5 Steps to Retire in 5 Years' was on Kindle unlimited so I gave it a read and it should be banned for misleading info. One of the most glaring mistakes is he claims dividend income is on top of total stock returns. He lives off dividends so he should know better! The 5 years he talks about were during the bull market after 2009, so a totally biased time-frame too. He also talks about how you can retire in Thailand on $200,000USD, which is ridiculous. He says he doesn't need to worry about inflation in Thailand because he lives so cheaply and he claims his US stocks will go up when prices increase in Thailand because they are international companies. Here are some excerpts when he talks about saving and investing for 5 years: "However - and this is huge - I completely left out the dividend income you'll be earning and reinvesting all the way along...assuming that aforementioned 5% portfolio yield...compounding over the course of five years of saving and investing...So I'm taking $35,000 per year [annual investment including dividends and savings] and I'm compounding it at 7% per year for five years. The 7% compounded rate of return is taken from the number I gave you earlier, which is roughly the long-term real rate of return from the stock market." So, he's saying you can collect 5% in dividends and get a 7% real return on share price! He also often says on his website that dividends are risk free. fireinthailand.com/leanfire-living-on-the-edge-of-disaster/
