Done today, piece of p**s. Didnt book on line, rocked up at Bang Jak on Suk Rd, right next to the Levis factory outlet store, at about 7:30. Doors opened 8:00, straight to information, documents handed over, checked and issued a ticket number CXXXX. It would appear those with A or B ticket numbers had booked on line. First step, test station, eyes on the machine, light flashing to your left or right, tell them the colour. Next step, line up the sticks, green to go forward or red to come back, next step, brake test. All the above finished by 8:30, coffee break, go into the office next door for the video (hilarious) at 9:00. Video finished, go outside and get in line, about 10:00, took about 2 minutes to check docs and take photo, walked out the door before 10:30 with new license, due for renewal in 6 years. My birthday was last month, renewal starts from 5 years after your next birthday, next birthday next year, 2020, add 5 years, renewal date june 2025. Cost 505 baht today, 50 baht for doctors report, 200 baht for immi for certifiacate of residence, total cost 755 baht for 6 years driving, bargain. Be aware, dont turn up like a KSR pikey, long trousers.

Sound sage indeed advice when one is dealing with any form of ''officialdom'' in Thailand and elsewhere too. Nothing wrong with being ''booted and suited'' a polite smile and a mini grovel when encountering and dealing with those self-inflated official government (serfs) servants whose ego is bigger than their minuscule minds as well as the positions and the offices they occupy.

Rgs, What docs do the embassy want to get certificate of residence? In the past I've always used my WP. -------------------------------------- Department of transport's website and renewal page is here: www.dlt.go.th/en/renew-license/HAVE TO PREPARE THE DOCUMENTS AS FOLLOW 1 PASSPORT WITH VISA (ORIGINAL AND PHOTO COPY) 2 ORIGINAL PRESENT RESIDENT ADDRESS IN THAILAND CERTIFY FROM EMBASSY / IMMIGRATION BUREAU (VALID FOR 1 YEAR) OR WORK PERMIT (WITH PRESENT RESIDENT ADDRESS IDENTIFIED) AND ORIGINAL PHOTO COPY 3 ORIGINAL MEDICAL CERTIFICATE (5 DISEASES FORM) FROM CLINIC OR HOSPITAL (VALID FOR 1 MONTH) 4 ORIGINAL AND PHOTO COPY OF INVALID INTERNATIONAL DRIVING LICENCE (1949 CONVENTION) OR LOCAL DRIVING LICENCE (TRANSLATE IN TO ENGLISH OR THAI LANGUAGE AND CERTIFY BY EMBASSY IF IT IS N'T IN ENGLISH LANGUAGE)

They have the form behind the counter on your rh side as you enter, just tick the box for license. You may have to wait in line, you get it from the same desks that are doing the tm 30s.

Just to add, they'll only issue them if you're doing 90 day reports. They can be a bit iffy if you've been out of the country and not done a report since your return.

My wife has done the TM30 online.

I'll be trying to do a TM28 first for change of address, and then hopefully once that is stamped and received as notified, then asking for the cert of residence

I understand, however the desk that issues the certificates of residence is the same one that does the tm 30s, hence the having to wait in line.

Just been to Samut Prakarn immigration for the Residence Certificate. Changed my address to there. Much smaller than Chaeng Wattana, but much friendlier office. 500 baht for the Cert, wait under an hour and then get the cert same day.
Highly preferable to a trip to Chaeng Wattana or the UK Embassy.
