"Govt rejects US opposition to farm chemicals ban Biothai: Powerful company behind US policy The government has rejected US opposition to its decision to ban use of three toxic farm chemicals, the herbicides paraquat and glyphosate and the pesticide chlorpyrifos. Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha said on Friday officials would be assigned to clearly explain Thailand's position to the US embassy. Deputy Minister and Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul was more blunt. He said the US was worried only about trade. The Thai government was concerned about the health of Thai consumers " www.bangkokpost.com/thailand/general/1780029/govt-rejects-us-opposition-to-farm-chemicals-ban#cxrecs_s

The Thai government was concerned about the health of Thai consumers Utter bollocks. The junta is simply jumping on a scientifically illiterate, populist band wagon - similar to the hoo-haa surrounding the "dangers" of vaccines. Glyphosate is ridiculously safe and there is absolutely no scientific rationale for its banning.

You might be right, about the Thai government that is. Regarding glyphosate the issue is a bit more complex. In itself glyphosate may be safe but with a lot of herbicides being used to keep most of what we eat nice and shiny one may wonder about the accumulative effect. Fact is that traces of herbicides can be found in groundwater, rivers, oceans. As such it is to be recommended to develop some spray which really dissolves after a few days. Some more info on herbicides www.webmd.com/cancer/herbicide-glyphosate-cancer#2
