No, gerbils can hold there breath for around 20 minutes.
They evolved to have this ability so that they can be put in dark enclosed places for long periods of time.

Serious story now.
I was at work one day and they defogged the soi for mosquitoes (without any warning).
When I got home from work my youngest boy was in tears because the chemicals they used had killed his 2 hamsters.
So yes, mosquito fogging is dangerous for small pets.
