The Pound faces two challenges before it comes right by expats in Thailand, the first is the outcome of the election, the second is Brexit.
Today the Pound is close to THB 40, that's the highest it's been for quite some time and the first time in a while that it's retreated, most of that is because markets think that BoJo will win the election. If BoJo were to win a majority in Parliament, that would pretty much cause Sterling to increase substantially I would guess. BUT, if on the other hand tactical voting were to see a Corbyn coalition in power it will be good bye Thailand for many expats and hello comrade Jeremy!
So, for those not earning THB whilst living here in Thailand, will you take the risk and wait before making a transfer or not?

^^^^ half the risk and transfer half of the amount in sterling, then transfer the rest later, either way, its still going to cost you the same amount in sterling.

....and Sterling soars this morning on the back of a BoJo majority, up 3% on the back of exit poll results.
If you held your nerve you did the right thing, ex.rates should get substantially better when Thailand opens for business.

Early days as of yet, only time will tell if it is a positive and sustained improvement on the health of the Pound Sterling.
Note the Euro is not in the best of health though. That may well have some impact as may the Thai Baht and its forecasted weakening in the money market(s) on the strengthening of the Pound sterling.
From the BBC website today . 11-00: hrs Bkk time

On the 13th a feller in the bar said it Is 40.70 now and it will be 50.00 by the end of the year. So it all looks good. Sort of. Not seen him since.

Bit of a damp squib, Sterling soared and then it de-soared! You are missing the big picture, Boris's Brexit bonanza, the FTSE soared. Persoanally I would rather have 200k pommie pesos in the UK at 40 baht to the pound, than 100k pommie pesos at 80 baht to the quid. Options young man, its all about options.

I suspect Mr Average UK resident who is planning his next overseas holiday doesn't quite see things the same way. Never mind, staycations are all the rage these days and now that the Red Wall has fallen and the blues rule the North, holidays in Bridlington, Grimsby and Hull are no longer just a dream, who needs Kata or Railay Beach.

I could just go a few decent pints of bitter or IPA. But not here. Just remembered I am still off it.

I see Andrew Bailey is the new Governor of the BOE, how thrilling is that! One economist wrote, "he won't be a superstar nor a mover shaker but he's steady under fire", expect no great changes from BOE for 4 years.
