You need to be:
1. Thai
2. Born to the right family
Otherwise forget it.

Sense of humour. Perspective on life. Some decent mates. And oh yes... money to meet your needs

A getaway from the village for when cabin fever kicks in.

Be smart, don't let your little head rule, don't fall for supporting some extended family that has nothing to do with you, anything you buy go through the company and have a backup plan always.
From Swiss friends, who run a company in BKK. Imported the parts for the Skytrain years ago. Maybe harsh advice but real.

As a foreigner - the way to make it in Thailand is to never get trapped in the country.
Just about every misery story you hear is rooted in people putting every penny they have into country and running themselves skint.
Then finding themselves trapped.
I know a few in that position.
Not for me, thanks.

What if the Thai in-laws are rich? --Just hypothetically spoken.. I was thinking the same thing and wanted to know how to pull a girl from a rich Thai Chinese family? I'll save it for a seperate thread though. I've already envisioned the meal out with the parents, it all goes well until they ask what I do for a living. Not sure stacking shelves in Tesco would be a good enough answer.

Just because you marry into money, doesn't mean you automatically stop work forever. Opposite I'd say in most cases. You need to work harder.

What uni did you go to? Where do you work? Whats your position? How much do you earn? How much land do you own? Our ageing farang lotharios are usually too smitten by upcountry Lek from Nakon Nowhere that no Somcahia wants, they forget to ask these questions. Nice one Papa, what a cracker you have pulled,, never mind, more like she is pulling your cracker.
