Of my 25 offshore investments, 2 have returned > 30% YTD (Mid Wynd, Ecofin), 14 have returned > 20%, 6 > 10%. Of the remaining investments, two are deliberately defensive - index linked gilts and TIPS - and they did OK at +7 and a bit %. The only investment in negative territory as PAC (Pacific Assets Trust) at -0.4%. It's been a bumper year, despite having (as North Korea put it) “a heedless and erratic old man” in the White House.
Without Trump's war with China things would certainly have looked brighter for Asian shares. 3 of my bottom 6 performers are Asian investment trusts (SOI, PAC and ATR).

If I remember correctly, dont you also hold this lot AyG? That's quite a memory you have there. Yes, I hold Artemis US Smaller Companies, though it's currently around 1% of my investments. For me it's not very high conviction. However, since I typically like to hold 1/3 in small caps and 2/3 in large caps in most sectors, it fitted the bill at the time. I'm not a great fan of US stocks. I think the American empire is in terminal decline. I thought that before the American idiots elected Trump as the buffoon in chief. It sort of confirmed my prejudice rational and finely reasoned opinion. As someone commented "Green Day released the most relevant song of 2019 in 2004".
