My financial planning manager at UOB called me to say the DPA has extended the current level of bank deposit insurance for one more year, it's currently at 5 million Baht but was scheduled to reduce to one million later this year, that reduction has now been postponed.

It's more than annoying to read comments by posters over at the other place on this subject. The typical post suggests that foreigners are excluded (or are at the end of the payout queue) and that it would take months if not years to reimburse depositors, I imagine that is because most of those posters don't have normally have more than two satang to rub together unless they return some empty Leo bottles to the recycling centre! And when asked why that is so they will claim that Thai banks are not safe so they prefer to keep their, ahem, "wealth", at home....they certainly don't make those porcelain pigs the way they used to.
As most people here will know the banks pay an insurance premium for this insurance and DPA is committed to reimbursing depositors, within 30 days, Prompt Pay being their vehicle of choice currently.

It's rare to find a posting on financial matters worth reading in the other place. Far too much "do this, because that's what I do" meaning lots of recommendations for investment in property, gold and cryptocurrencies, and not enough consideration of issues such as liquidity, intrinsic value, and long term performance, plus an anti-Thai and anti-Thailand paranoia. Best to let it all wash over you. No need to engage with these ill-informed posters.

Best to let it all wash over you. No need to engage with these ill-informed posters. I did try, until quite recently, to give posters a grounding in some of the basics of the Thai economy, which of course ran counter to the popular belief amongst the masses that it's running on borrowed time and on its last legs. A part of that involved trying to explain why THB is so strong and in doing so ran up against the entrenched view that THB is being manipulated. It was all a lost cause from the outset although a small percentage of posters were appreciative of the explanations I posted. What really surprised me was the extent to which people not only don't want to learn the facts of the matter but also the degree to which they cling on to their old previously held off the wall beliefs, even when faced with overwhelming and indisputable evidence to the contrary. I suspect part of it has to do with the type of person attracted to TVF and possibly to Thailand, as a general rule, it's not meant to appear snobbish but I doubt the UK will ever complain to the Thai government that the country is attracting its top brains! Another part of it is the very nature of social networking sites, everyone today has a voice and an opinion on everything and they all mean to be heard, I'm not altogether convinced that's a good thing, children should be seen and not heard comes to mind. A third component of the picture involves age bias and a desire by many posters to oppose anything that is supported or endorsed by boomers and that's kinda sad. But what's most sad is that people do not want to know about fact and are happy to live their lives based on a fictional representation of the world around them, that just blows me away that people could find that acceptable. But I have now moved on and I have stopped trying to educate, it's simply not worth it, as you say it now washes over me. But I still feel sad for those people who do want to understand the facts and who struggle so enormously in trying to do so. .

Does anyone know what happened to herr klingon, dr naam, brilliant guy, loved his tuetonic straight to the point style of posting, probably one of the nicest guys over there I never got to meet in person, all my fault of course, he did at one time invite me to pop in for a cuppa tea. Frankly, I was humbled and honoured at the same time, that he saw me as one he would invite to his house. If you are reading this dear naam, take care was an honour to have crossed swords with you, you were always a gent,
