In a recent conversation I was telling someone that it is only in the central and tourist areas of Bangkok that you get the small bottles of beer. Then I thought where the hell do I get that from.
1) I have a memory of being served large bottles in the On Nut beer garden.
2) RGS has frequently mentioned (I think) drinking large ones in his local area.
3) I used to get large ones in a cheapo little caff near Hua Lamphong.
Er that's it. In BKK I don't wander too far from Silom and Lower Suk.
So I throw myself at the mercy of the metropolitan elite, am I right or talking shxxe.

In some nice places on Phi Chai Rd. I'd get big bottles. Same what I see at the many places outside along Ratchawat Market, as far as the public there drinks beer that is. One or two karaoke type places only sell large bottles as far as I know.
All this in my neck of the woods. Khet Dusit, Bangkok that is.

Ah beer! I was looking forward to a nice pint of real ale in the UK this year but it seems that's not meant to be. I stopped drinking last September for a month, now here it is May and I forgot to start again, this is my longest period of abstention since I was 16 years old. On the plus side, my weight has dropped somewhat and crucially my bloods are more normal, my BP is also much improved. I never actively sought to improve those things, had I returned to the UK this year I would have been in the pub like a shot. But if you want to get your numbers squared away, teetotal is the way to go.

But sadly that was not the instigator, I like to stop drinking periodically, just to be sure that I can. My dad was an alcoholic and when I was younger I drank far too much at times, stopping for a month or so is my way of proving to myself that I have control and the requisite will power.

Tourist areas, if you are talking hotels or restaurants, you will get big bottles, if you are talking about farang bars in the ghetto, no never seen them for sale.
Sorry not a metropolitian elite, bang kapi worthless scum.
Smokie knows where I drink, HappyLand, Tawana Square etc, thai style beer gardens, three large Leos, 200 baht, if I go upmarket, behind seacon square, its usually 3 or 5 litre draft beer towers.
Up my way I defy anyone to be able to spend 1,000 baht out on a night on the p**s. Thats 15 large Leos smokie, are you up for it, ha ha ha, if so a better man than me. My average spend in somchai land, 500 baht.

Last time I was at Tawana was with a certain Tiger when he was still on the pop....wasn't expensive since I'd already appropriated his wallet and had generously lent him back 2000 Baht so he could fund my boozing.

I'm currently working a lot of on call and having ten day stretches where I can't touch alcohol....truthfully I'm really enjoying it.

I drink Chang tallies in a plastic cup from the local ma and pa shop. Tried giving up but can't find a substitute. It's the taste of beer. I rarely get drunk but enjoy drinking it unfortunately.

Smokie took me to Nana a couple of years ago, I'll never forget the look on his face when he was billed 360 baht for two small Chang. Utter disgrace.
I drink in the new Kiwi, more or less in the soi opposite the original location on Soi 8.
99 baht for a pint of Tiger ( not my choice ) or 110 baht for Heineken ( that'll do me ). There 199 baht breakfast is good value too.
Soi 11 appears to be up and coming since the bars were booted from Soi 22.

I am finding Pattaya a tad provincial now, being really a big city type at heart . So this talk of 70 baht large ones is of great interest. Would Prakanong - Bang Na have the sort of places that rgs speaks of? Smokie is normally the chap who knows this sort of thing and as I have been fairly polite to him recently he may be able to help. Reasonable priced accom round there and the BTS is handy. No good looking at bars at the minute but I could do with a few days there sussing things out. Thanks for bearing with me.

The idea of drinking beer surrounded by expats with throbbing music and half naked ladies repulses me. Excuse me, I'm off to the local.
