I am finding Pattaya a tad provincial now, being really a big city type at heart . So this talk of 70 baht large ones is of great interest. Would Prakanong - Bang Na have the sort of places that rgs speaks of? Smokie is normally the chap who knows this sort of thing and as I have been fairly polite to him recently he may be able to help. Reasonable priced accom round there and the BTS is handy. No good looking at bars at the minute but I could do with a few days there sussing things out. Thanks for bearing with me. Soi 13 in fact has a bar where its 50B small beers 80B large. Prakanong has its beer garden with 500B towers which is decent value. rgs has already named the proper cheap spots further out....hop on the canal boat to the end and head down the back of Happyland. BangNa and such I have never explored having not had any reason to. There are bars around Soi 30 Pattanakan offering large beer at 80B...not the plastic farang lovers spots however.

The idea of drinking beer surrounded by expats with throbbing music and half naked ladies repulses me. Excuse me, I'm off to the local. Aint that the truth, it aint the prices, it aint the crap sound system, it aint the shit music, it aint the my shit dont stink attitiude of the isaan princesses, its all to do with the sanook factor that left the building a long time ago. If I want to sit and listen to guys talking about their wife, her family, the weather, the price of things and how crap their football team is doing, I can sit with the much maligned thai man for a quarter of the price i pay in some farang rip off price joint in the ghetto, scuse me, i'm off to the local.

BangNa and such I have never explored having not had any reason to. There are bars around Soi 30 Pattanakan offering large beer at 80B...not the plastic farang lovers spots however. Here we go khun rott, Ratchatewi coco walk, Petchaburi, Pra Ram9 behind the hospital of the same name, Lat Prao beside red shirt central at Big C, Ram beside the uni, at the back of the football stadium soi 26, beside the hospital soi 34. Soi Tigerfish pattanakan soi 44, smokes mentioned soi bunny snooker, soi 30, Ram intra beside fashion island, soi sri nakarin behind seacon square, and kings park avenue opposite seacon sqaure, klong tan beside the police station. Is Imperial world sam rong classified as bangna or bkk? In everyone one of those areas it would be impossible to spend 1,000 baht on a night out, the most you will pay is 100 baht for a large singha, who drinks that these days? As mentioned by smokes those daraft towers are the way to go. Just to p**s you off even more, I know of places in Bkk selling large Leos for 58 baht per bottle, yes I shit you not. Smokes mentioned soi 30, if he carried on further up the soi to the 7 on the rh side, do a right and carry on to the next 7 at the bottom of on Nut soi 17, at the market there, there is a two storey wooden house, you sit upstairs on the verandah and watch the world go by for 80 baht large singhas. Smokes got off the boat to early (at the mall) he should have carried on to the next stop Bang Kapi, right across the road is Bang Kapi market, at the back of it is an area of about 10 to 12 bars selling all hours, , cheap as chips.

rgs this must place you as favourite for the "metropolitan poster of the year", blown the competition right out of the water.!
I feel guilty about taking your time up with that post. I would like to treat you to one of these 58 baht beers. (if it's not too far away that is).

I would like to treat you to one of these 58 baht beers. (if it's not too far away that is). Thats most gracious of you old bean, but there is no need Tales from a farang in bkk, My favourite drinking places. the long gone bar right beside the mall bang kapi at the pier, smokie knows where I mean, manys the time I have been sat there with friends visitors, waiting to get the boat to the lower suk ghetto, everyone one of them has asked me, do you reaaly want to go? everytime my answer was no, what can i get there i cant get here?, friend told the serving wench, same again. The bar that used to be outside the pan thip plaza, on the left hand side, the entertainment kicked off when the two toms that ran the place got p**sed up and started fighting with each other. The beer bars that used to be outside of central world. Highlights of the last few years, going to somcahi bars as Leicester city were going for the premier league, the places were rocking as we watched the football live, what an atmosphere. Another somchai bar as the thai ladies volleyball team were playing, Thailand came to a standstill, never seen anything like it. A Big Mango p**s up in the biergarden on suk soi 7, what a day, a meeting of legends. Honourable mention to a friend of this place, he was up my way, we had had our fill, glasses were emptied and the bill was settled, how much he asked me? 500 baht said I, what each he asked as he reached for his pocket, dont be daft I replied, 8 large Leos at 60 baht plus a 20 baht tip. Said friend wasnt having that, what 20 baht tip for service like that, he tried to give the owner a tip, she wont have it i told him, mai aow mai aow, mai tong, no thanks no thanks, no need she said. Get yer ass out of these farang ghettos and see how the thais are, side note, said farang mentioned to me, I hear they all call you by your name even when talking about you, not once in the hours we sat there was the word farang ever used.

The posh restaurant near the mooban did us a roasted sea bass one night for 300 Baht...a meal for two fit for a king btw...300 Baht....add on some veg....2 large Leos and change of 500 Baht...or the other place where dishes are 50 Baht and roast your tastebuds....I struggle to spend 200 Baht on those evenings.

Been going to these kind of joints ever since i set foot into the kingdom over 20 odd years ago. My late Bil was so good to me when i first arrived in Bkk. Would take us all out in the back of the pick up all over town exploring new food venues. But, it's these kind of places i remember fondly the most because we have such a large family. Also behind Seakon square as mentioned previously, On Nut 44, great little Isaan and Southern Thai joints. Plus Udom suk, 101 and behind Bang na, is where you will find most Thais enjoying value for money in both the food, entertainment and drink stakes.

Follow me here, you home drinkers. Chang draft is 2,950 per keg. They lend you one beer tower per keg up till five. I do know you need to commit to buying five kegs a month. If you buy ten kegs you get one free. So..........one pint = 56 baht if you base it upon five. Two pints a day at home = one keg per month.
Chang won't supply you direct, the trick is to team up with a local bar owner. You buying two or three kegs a month from him will make it easy for him to get the required five kegs sold per month. And will give him a chance of hitting the magic ten figure, giving him one free. And, he will get promotion help from Chang too, including a wage contribution to a Chang girl. And you get a pint of draught at home for 56 baht.
You can all thank me later.

Udom Suk, thanks for reminding me, havent been up that way for a good few years. My brother in law goes shagging, sorry drinking up that way, hence why I stopped going.
