No monuments were destroyed
Some monuments were defaced
True greatness doesn't depend on a physical monument. True greatness is in ideas and ideas you don't deface that easily although far off lefties and righties do give it a try.

^^^ Isn't there a point at which you simply stop? You're highly unlikely to change peoples' opinions. And you're not going to change the world.
There's enough acrimony in the world without your stoking it, even if you're generally (in my opinion) in the right.

I'm for consensus, talking things through. I'm a wondering type and I'm (trying to be) objective enough to accept counter arguments as long as they're well founded. Etc., etc. Aren't you guys lucky to have me around?

I thought she died 50 years ago. Or was that Dame Edna?

I thought she died 50 years ago. Or was that Dame Edna? You should pay more attention, my dear oldie, even if Mrs. Everage originally came to be in Melbourne. "The first stage sketch to feature Mrs Norm Everage, called "Olympic Hostess", premiered at Melbourne University's Union Theatre on 12 December 1955." Both she and her 'real-life alter-ego' alife and kicking, he at 86 now. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barry_Humphries

Mrs. Everage originally came to be in Melbourne. Whilst Dame Edna lives in Moonee Ponds (a suburb of Melbourne), according to her autobiography, My Gorgeous Life, she was born in Wagga Wagga, NSW.

I stand corrected. Lots of autobiographies of famous people I haven't read yet. BTW Wagga Wagga, isn't that where oldie's nearest pub is, the one with a maximum of nine customers excluding chicken?

I prefer Almelo to Amsterdam. Just saying. Although I've never been in Almelo I think but from what I've seen of Amsterdam I can only agree with you. Most likely I would also have no problem to get a nice Grolsch beer. Mind you I might have a bit of a problem understanding some of the local Low Saxon dialect spoken there.

Wagga Wagga is a shit hole. Humpty Doo is much better. It has an active Tourist Authority branch I understand www.tripadvisor.com/Tourism-g1937824-Humpty_Doo_Top_End_Northern_Territory-Vacations.html"Humpty Doo is a small town in Australia's Northern Territory, situated just south of the Arnhem Highway, approximately 40 km from Darwin. At the 2016 census, Humpty Doo had a population of 4,380 people.[1] Its local government area is Litchfield Municipality. The town is a popular stopping point for tourists travelling between Darwin and Kakadu National Park, and boasts many attractions of its own. The main industries are agriculture and tourism; however, most residents commute to Darwin or Palmerston for work, and many regard it as a dormitory town." en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Humpty_Doo

I caught the trans Siberian years ago and contacted a friend in Almelo to tell him I'll be in Europe some time and we should catch up. Little did I realise the trans Siberian actually went through Almelo on the way to London. So I wasted numerous drinks backtracking.
