Welcome to Thailand, we hope you enjoy your stay "Thailand: All visitors will need insurance A consortium of 16 insurance companies in Thailand are now offering foreigners, who are eligible to travel to Thailand, the mandatory insurance cover valued at $100,000. Thailand’s Office of Insurance confirmed that it has set up a consortium of insurance companies offering Covid-19 insurance online as the country prepares to reopen its borders to travellers. Once the country reopens all foreigners entering Thailand will need to buy Covid-19 insurance. But until the door reopens the scheme will make it easier for foreigners who are currently eligible to travel to Thailand to acquire the mandatory insurance cover online. In addition to having insurance cover, travellers need to provide the nearest Thai embassy with a Fit to Fly Health Certificate and a negative RT-PCR swab test valid within 72 hours of the flight departing for Thailand. They are issued with a certificate of entry when they have fulfilled all the conditions and have a confirmed flight date. They must also have an appropriate visa that fits the approved category of travel. Tourist visas for leisure travel are not being issued. A consortium of 16 insurance companies in Thailand Let me correct that for you "a cartel of 16 insurance companies". Prices are fixed and as sky high as the planes the tourists won't be arriving on. It's also a massive misstep by the authorities. Wealthy people can afford to self-insure. They don't want to throw money into the pockets of Thai insurance companies, so they'll feel disinclined to visit.

The cheapest I saw for a 62 year old when the O-A visa insurance requirement of 400,000 Baht was mentioned was 65,000 Baht. I dread to think what they are going charge for this scam.

So Mrs Mosha and I were talking over a beer yesterday. I was telling her about the 16 con artist companies and it came to mind. Who in their right mind doesn't sort out insurance before traveling?

^^| I wonder. "Thai Chamber of Commerce seeks visa amnesty for tourists The Thai Chamber of Commerce (TCC) has urged the government to extend the visa amnesty for 400,000 tourists here, while operators in Chiang Mai said more than 10,000 international tourists are helping to generate revenue in the province while borders remain closed. TCC chairman Kalin Sarasin said the chamber has repeatedly demanded that the Immigration Bureau consider automatically extending the deadline for foreigners in Thailand for 90 days after the amnesty expires today, but the proposal was neglected." www.bangkokpost.com/business/1991875/thai-chamber-of-commerce-seeks-visa-amnesty-for-tourists

Apparently a list of "safe" countries will be published this week. Safe as in low infection rates.
