I don't agree with this. I rarely ever resorted to smacking my kids but when I did it was without anger and on one occasion a matter of life and death as my son refused to stop playing on the railway line. I tried to reason with him, expained the concept of death, then as a last resort I gave him the smacking of his life. My wife and daughter burst into tears as they knew it was so unusual and a necessary sanction.. He never played on the railway again. www.bbc.com/news/uk-scotland-54825151

Proof in the post above that there is a time and a place and a reason for everything

I'm 100% in favour of banning physical punishment of children. It serves no purpose other than to brutalise them and create further problems. I suspect shopping centres in Carlisle will become a dreaded trip for many a Scottish kid now however .

The purple haired brigade with nose piercings are nowhere to be seen at the checkouts of the local supermarket as little johnny goes into a meltdown, the spolit brat little emperor has had too many sugary drinks. Thankfully these little bastids with no social or communication skills soon get sorted out when they join the work place. Signed, a , bring back national service, the birch and corporal punishment in our schools type. PS, how do you reason with an idiot?

I smacked my kid once for sticking wires in a live power point. It hurt me more than him. Yelling and compromising didn't seem to work while he was showering himself with sparks.

Seriously though this law has come about to try to stop those who whack their kids on a daily basis...which is just a nonsense.

Not a decision i took lightly believe me, but it is one of the factors why my daughter is being raised back in BKK for the time being until we return. There isn't a lot right about the Thai educational system, but the fact that there is a emphasis instilled in society on respect and discipline from an early age, i know we have made the right call. Especially when i see the little gobshites that attend the school were i was educated and the behaviour that they display.
