Yes I remember the SOXMIS vehicle's. If we were on guard duty and we seen one drive past the camp we had to report as much detail as possible, Reg number, vehicle typy, .
The number of occupants was the most important part. SOXMIS cars had to have 4 people in them, if there were only 3 that meant that they had dropped one off somewhere to 'spy' what could be spied.
I can't remember the number plate colour but the Berlin SOXMIS cars did not use yellow plates. I do remember that the SOXMIS cars were massive, they looked a bit like the old American Lincons.
The British version of SOXMIS was BRIXMIS.

Nearly on the same lines:
I was on guard duty in Berlin one day when a fully armed Soviet helicopter flew over the camp. Just in case anyone is not aware, the Hind-D is an awesome gunship with some pretty shocking armaments and could pretty much tear up an army camp without breaking a sweat. It is a devastating Mother.
Anyway, the guard commander of the day (who was a known idiot) decided to 'call out' the guard. He had the guard draw ammunition and had one of the guard get the GPMG (General Purpose Machine Gun). Luckily enough the key for the chain on the gun rack could not be found in time, so by the time that the GPMG was released the Hind had gone.
If we had tried to firer our 7.62 onto a highly armoured and highly armed Soviet Hind-D, I have no doubt it may have caused a bit of a stir.

Released for good behaviour by 9yo. Thank freck that they didn't find the shank that I had fashioned out of an old WW2 bayonet.

We had our camp buzzed a couple of times by Hinds. We were in Brooke Barrack and as there were 3 camps in the cluster (Brooke, Wavell & Smutts) and we were across the road (literally) from Uncle Rudolf’s house (Spandau Prison), our area was of particular interest to the British Labour party Commies. Another sitting that I had was on the Berlin Military Train. I used to volunteer for train guard for this train. It was the easiest duty that you could get, it relieved you of other duties, the train journey was fantastic, the food was much better than cookhouse slop and when you got to the destination Brunswick) you were allowed a couple of ‘midday’ hours to hit the town and down a few cool ones. Anyway, I digress………. While on one train guard and half way along the Berlin corridor we were lucky enough to see a formation of 4 Hinds. We were informed later that there was a massive Soviet exercise taking place.

Ваше здоровье, Дядя рубль Zey bastardeez izz owa svorn enemiez!! smokiski I have in the past met with a few Russians (in my civilian role) and on occasion have chatted with them, be it for business or for pleasure (great drinkers the Russians). I also spent a week in St Petersburg. However, my meetings were with only the tinest percentage of the population. Russia has an estimated population of 144.4 million, so the cross section of their society that I have met with was the tiniest of fractions. However, of all of the Russians that I have heard speaking English (including on film/TV), I have never heard one speaking with a fake German Nazi officer’s accent. Maybe it’s a regional dialect.

I took a few months to travel on the trans-mongolian/ Siberian trains a long time ago from Beijing to Irkutsk to Holland. Buggered if I can remember much of it. I went into the USSR and departed the CIS so it was about the time the wall came down, 1990ish.
