Well, not really much fun and not just because of COVID-19 and lockdown. With 37 parties participating to get a few of the total 150 MP seats you'd expect fireworks, but Dutch politics and certainly elections tend to be dull. It's more like "do normal and get on with it". As for the 37 political parties, well probably we'll get another coalition government involving four or five parties. That ensures that we'll see more evolution than revolution. And lots of talks and discussions of course. Here an interesting overview of a few smaller parties and their, ehm, ideas. In the Netherlands a major is not really 'elected', more 'selected'. The below is too much jargon for me to translate. Try google instead. Anyway, now we have the general elections deciding parliament and indirectly government as in Prime Minister and cabinet. "Een burgemeester wordt in Nederland door de Kroon benoemd,[4] nadat het kabinet met de benoeming heeft ingestemd op grond van een voordracht door de minister van Binnenlandse Zaken en Koninkrijksrelaties gebaseerd op een aanbeveling van de gemeenteraad van de bewuste gemeente." |

It would seem about 10% more voters bothered to vote than in 2017. Unclear why but experts believe it is because this time the voters may keep the special red pencil.  |
