It looks like Global Britain is keen on isolation and making export only more difficult. IMHO of course. "Ministers plan post-Brexit return of imperial pounds and ounces in review of EU laws Government to legislate to end compulsory metric measures ‘in due course’ Shops are to be allowed to sell products in pounds and ounces again after the government pledged to review a ban on marking and selling products in imperial units as part of post-Brexit changes to EU laws. Brexit minister Lord Frost set out plans on Thursday to ditch EU rules that no longer suit the UK following its depature from the bloc last year." www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/imperial-units-pounds-ounces-brexit-b1921732.html

^^^ I don't think it's anything to do with relationships with the rest of the world. It's simply decriminalising something that shouldn't have been criminalised in the first place. Who's harmed if the greengrocer sells a pound of potatoes, rather than a pack of 453 grams? Is the world going to come to an end if the farmer sells a dozen eggs, rather than a metric 10?

"He added that the purpose of the reforms was to “improve the productivity of the UK by putting in place regulations that are tailored to our conditions”."
Britain isolating itself. For local consumption working in pound, ounces, and pints might be OK, but the moment you export the metric system is preferred. Many companies, especially those who try to export will stick to the metric system.
Anyway, it seems somewhat quant that Britain is suggested to be suffering from the metric system when there are many more important issues, local issues, to be tackled.
PS next we'll discuss the return to the Julian Calendar dropping the Gregorian Papist one.

^^^ Ignore the bullshit that Boris the Buffoon spouts incessantly. It's not connected to any sort of intellectual process. The short version is that something that was made illegal because of the EU is now legal again. Of course British companies will largely continue dealing with overseas parties using the metric system (except when dealing with the US of A, Burma and Liberia).
Similarly, the British are now allowed to consider the humble carrot a vegetable again, not a fruit as the EU determined simply to allow the Portuguese to continue making their traditional carrot jam.

To some the 'regained freedom' will be seen as just going back to the old days. Tourists will like it when visiting Britain. That's assuming they are allowed entry.

Tourists will like it when visiting Britain. No, it's going to be terrible. It'll be a terrible culture shock. I remember how I was shocked when first I visited France and discovered not only did they not speak English (God's own language, as you know, because the Bible was written in it), they also didn't use pounds sterling, or how they didn't use deodorant and their women let their underarm hair grow into an unseemly, rancid-smelling thatch, to be aired whilst riding the "Métro". They also appeared unaware that eating vast quantities of garlic led to foul breath, and they didn't even bother to use mouthwash. They also seemed to think that cricket balls should be thrown underarm, and they called the game "pétanque". They couldn't even spell properly, with renegade squiggles appearing above their vowels, Métro & pétanque being prime examples.

Reminds me of that bard Shakespeare who, some have it, wrote "much ado about nothing". BTW if a poll was done asking about a few pence in a shilling and some of those in a pound, together with weights I wonder how many percentagewise would rather stick to the metric system and furthermore pro/con spreads over age groups. Without real data I can only say that I think the younger generation(s) either couldn't case less or wants no change at all.

When I got caught selling an eighth of charlie to an undercover copper I got an extra three months on my sentence for not selling metric.
Can I sue the courts retrospectively?

If you're exporting and importing articles which need to fit a common system is needed for dimension, weight, tolerance, etc. When products are assembled for locally produced part one may use their own 'from the good old days' system. As Global Britain you need to adhere to the International System of Units. See also en.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_System_of_UnitsBTW did you know that NASA does most in the metric system and requires supplies to do the same?
