If anyone can advise.
A mate from here died in the UK in July last year. Cause of death never mentioned. A mutual mate came over a short while ago, the subject came up and he said it was Covid. Who told you that I asked, well it must be was the reply. I looked up on fb and saw that the family said late May that he'd been released from hospital with three weeks to live. He eventually passed late July, ten weeks after release. No mention of cause of death.
Would it be normal to release a Covid patient with a life expectancy of three weeks.? New one to me but the mutual says it happens all the time.
Any informed opinions welcome.

No it wouldnt be normal, this doesnt sound right.
For the record and for all the anti vacc brigade out there, I know a guy in the UK who has been double vaxed and still caught covid in the last two weeks.
Sounds to me as if the guy was discharged for pallitave care at home, if you had ever seen the photos and heard the stories of covid victims, sorry I dont believe this.
Hopefully the smoker reads this and gives his straight from the horses mouth opinion.
The death certificate will mention cause of death.

People who have COVID-19 and are in the last stage tend to be 'breathless' and require oxygen as their lungs are full of muck and failing. Mostly. Furthermore COVID-19 makes such patients highly contageous.
Patients allowed to go home to die there in their own environment mostly have some type of cancer or failing kidneys or the like.
My 4-1/2 cents, without guarantee, and IMHO only.

failing kidneys or the like. Not kidneys. Patient would be put on dialysis.

failing kidneys or the like. Not kidneys. Patient would be put on dialysis. It depends on age of patient and on what other organs may fail / be failing. At least in the Netherlands a patient may request to return to his/her home and would be given attention and medicine against pain. Mostly it will be over in a weeks time.
