First estimates show a 3 billion US$ bill to rebuild / restore the AN-225. Not my area of expertise but just wondering if Airbus A380s could be modified to act as slightly smaller, less capable replacement. Rumour has it there's a yard sale for those planes.

The A380F was proposed but due to delays never build. Also as you mention it would be a 'normal' Freighter, not really meant for strange size or weight objects. Maybe what's needed is more like a job Airbus did to convert A330-200 into an Airbus BelugaXL (A330-743L).
