I call foul on this, she was paying more in UK tax as a non-dom than 98% of UK taxpayers and it was all perfectly legal. This is an establishment plot to keep a capable man out of office.

Of course, she'll now just rearrange her affairs so that her investments are held through some anonymous trust in the Virgin Islands or some other tax haven. She's not actually going to be paying an equitable amount of tax. Rich people never do. This news is all window dressing.

She's 10 years into a maximum 15 years during which she can use the non-dom option, thereafter she becomes taxable anyway. All this farce has done is to accelerate the process and rob the country of an opportunity to employ a useful financial mind. He will no doubt leave government and move to the US sooner rather than later, that even robs the UK of her tax payments.....it's ludicrous.

If people don't acquire wealth by one means or another, of course they wont be able to use the same facilities on offer to those that have. Surely you're not suggesting poor people should receive tax credits in lieu of having acquired wealth! I earn a paltry 18K quid a year but I still take advantage of a tax perk that allows me to avoid paying most of the tax due each year by paying into a UK pension, it's one of the rules. 


Risen up in protest at what, not being smart enough to earn some money......rubbish. And non-integrated, WTF does that mean, how do any of us know how integrated she is or is not? She was paying 30K Pound s year in tax FFS, what more do you want! 

Roman Abramovich is not the subject of this thread. But if by that you're asking me if his status as a non-dom has my support, yes it does, as does any one else who can use non-dom for tax purposes........rules is rules, neither Roman nor Sunak's wife created them, they just play by them. It strikes me there's more than a little envy in these arguments against!

One might ask whether it is fair or not that a couple can spend all their lives fornicating and producing unproductive sprogs that generate 18 years of tax deduction and vast amounts of income by way of benefits. Whereas the non-dom does pay 30k in taxes each year and ultimately will pay substantially more, Mr and Mrs multi-sprog pay nothing and are net receivers rather than givers. You tell me which of the two is fair and unfair!
