Where was that filmed and what type of soil was it, never saw anything like that in the middle east. Origin seems dubious indeed. Aug 16, 2022 In this experiment Dr Rob Thompson, a Meteorologist from the University of Reading, shows just how long it takes water to soak into parched ground, illustrating why heavy rainfall after a #drought can be dangerous and might lead to #flashfloods.

The irony is, Bkk needs the soil to be wet to stop roads and housing estates from sinking. If the earth is dry it contracts and sinks. I would suggest Bangkok needs soil. In my moobaan, virtually every house has concreted over its garden, either buy building extensions, or simply replacing grass with concrete. When I moved in the moobaan was surrounded by marshy ground on three sides. Then they built another moobaan to one side, an industrial depot on the other side, and now they're building another moobaan behind. Whilst we narrowly escaped the flooding in 2011, we wouldn't be so lucky if there were a repeat performance. There's simply nowhere for the water to go. Even after a moderate storm the klong, which used to be sufficient to take water away, struggles with the water volume.

There may also be an element of 'settling' and subsidence. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Subsidence

I would suggest Bkk needs more holes in the ground, every time I sit at the red lights at NIDA I ask myself, just how much more water can that lake hold. I dont know how often you take the Bang Pa In road out of Bkk, what used to be flood plains are now housing estates, Lam Luk Ha and Rangsit have now been swallowed up by Bkk, strangely places like Klong Sam Wa and Nong Jok dont suffer (yet) from flooding. Samut Prakarn is another area now gobbled up by developers, unc rub mentioned subsidence, check out some of the housing in Bang Pli.

Saint Columba is apparently the Patron Saint of Floods, so perhaps Ronnie could organise a few mates to light candles, fast for 24 hours, beat themselves with twigs or whatever it takes to appease these chappies.
Probably the worst is over, but it might help.
