It's been more than a decade since the catastrophic floods in Bangkok and elsewhere, and yet virtually nothing has been done to solve Thailand's water management problem. It's been 8 years since the Junta took over. It's not like they can claim they haven't had enough time. They're not short of money, either, proposing to waste invest 2.2 trillion baht ($61.97 billion) in the Eastern Economic Corridor in the next few years.
Wouldn't it be really nice to have a government that actually cared about the people of Thailand and their well being?

Flooding because of run-off from rivers or flooding because of tropical rainstorms are two different issues. Furthermore also in Europe we do have flooding caused by both. A thunderstorm after a period of dryness may see water not being absorbed because the soil hardened. This can case temporarily flooding. My sister tells me there was some like that in the Netherlands yesterday. In Britain we see similar things happening. "UK weather: Devon and Cornwall hit by heavy rain and flooding Travel disruption expected as rain and thunderstorm warnings remain in place for much of UK" www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2022/aug/16/uk-weather-devon-and-cornwall-hit-by-heavy-rain-and-flooding

In this part of the country there are several flood prevention projects that have been running for several years. One of them is not far from us, it's a water balancing tunnel that connects two reservoirs and prevents Mae Tang from flooding. I'm sure there are others underway that we are not all aware of. www.rtco.co.th/portfolio-item/maetaeng-maengad-water-tunnel-contract-1-the-increase-of-reservior-volume-of-mae-kuang-udam-thara-dam-project/

The water table around us is the highest I've ever seen it, our groundwater well shows water at three feet, our gardens have large pools of standing water that has nowhere to go!

"Clay soil is not a bad thing and actually withstands times of drought better than some soils with less clay content. However, they drain slowly and compact easily – particularly after rain. They can also be so compacted and dry that they cannot absorb heavy rainfalls fast enough, which leads to erosion and runoff."

Jesus H, are the people that daft they actually believe that shit, lord help us. Daft person here.....yes, but I'm happy to entertain reasons why I might be wrong. The irony is, Bkk needs the soil to be wet to stop roads and housing estates from sinking. If the earth is dry it contracts and sinks.

If the earth is dry it contracts and sinks. Yes indeed, but that was not the issue that was stated. The issue was, "A thunderstorm after a period of dryness may see water not being absorbed because the soil hardened', which I'm pretty sure is true.
