Oldie, never spoken to anyone else with sleep apnea. When you stop breathing do you "stay under" or come round.? Are you aware of the problem at the time.? Does it mean that basically you are not getting any real rest and feel like a bag of shoyte.? A myriad of medical problems are now linked to sleep apnea. I could explain it to you but then I'd have to charge you for professional services and that creates all sorts of tax problems, plus the Oz Dollar is pants so you've no chance. My willy fell off after the third booster shot. There you are then, nothing to lose. Yes, snoring is a sign. As is waking up and feeling like you haven't slept. An inexpensive sports watch that measures sleep quality will give you clues and can separate out light sleep from REM sleep and periods awake......revealing for me at least. It's also good for measuring how much exercise you get each day, plus they tell the time...I never knew that. I noticed a change in my sleep quality after I stopped drinking alcohol, it was much improved. Weight control can also help, getting below 82kgs helped me enormously. Mind you, if you'd told me ten years ago that I'd be eating salads, not drinking alcohol and exercising every day, I'd have said you were out of your tree, my how times change. |

Thanks chaps. I am a hypochondriac and have read about the problem and wondered if it was one of mine.
But I will defer the diagnosis due to the machine and the rest of the cure. I am another who snores like a dog, mainly after drink which I don't do so much of lately.
Keep us informed Oldie, is the machine etc a long term thing.?

From what I can gather, the machine is a life long commitment. Frankly I think I got screwed. They were gonna take my licence off me, so I had to buy the machine through their registered practitioner who seems changed whatever she felt. I have seen similar CPAP machines for less than half that price. As CM said, a cheap sports watch will give you all the information you need. I picked up one for about $40Au that connects to your phone through an app, and records blood oxygen and pulse (which are the two that will give you an indication if something is wrong), as well as all the other stuff. |

Then other thing is, apparently it affects you more if you sleep on your back. My father sewed some Lego blocks into the back of a tee shirt so it forced him to sleep on his side. Problem solved for practically no expense.

In my case it was a cocktail of hereditary, shift work, alcohol, OTC sleeping pills, a few extra kilos, and sleeping on my back.
By eliminating the bits I could, I probably could have managed it without the machine.
But the doctor would have had me by the balls, if they hadn't fallen off.
