The power of a single CPI reading:
CPI came in cold, it means the Fed medicine is working and US inflation is falling, instantly, look what happened:
The YEN strengthened over 1% Equities took off Bond yields fell Long Bond values surged, AND, critically, USD fell in value
Markets are now ramping up bets that the Fed will cut rates sooner rather than later, there's still some way to go but this is a good start.
All of which means, the Baht will strengthen

Smaller current account surpluses results from tourism and exports coming in under par.
Reduced FDI results from the US Fed rate and the prospect of greater government debt.
Same picture, different day.

While flights are relatively expensive, tourist numbers will be lower than Thailand saw pre Covid

Although maybe less tourists, what with the higher quality tourists we are aiming for, we can of course raise prices locally to make up for the possible income loss.

Some are speculating that the Singapore Airlines event will deter some from flying and that will hurt tourism.

Wind bagging Srettha brain farts again. Free trade deals should be a 'top priority' for Asia: Thai PM Srettha TOKYO -- To boost investment in Asia, "FTA negotiations should be a top priority," Thai Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin said Friday, the second day of Nikkei's Future of Asia forum, as he continued his global push to attract capital to his country. Thailand has 15 FTAs with 19 countries, and negotiations on seven more are underway, including with the European Union, he said. He also touted the success of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership -- the world's biggest free trade pact in terms of economic size -- which brings together ASEAN members and partners including Japan and China. asia.nikkei.com/Spotlight/The-Future-of-Asia/The-Future-of-Asia-2024/Free-trade-deals-should-be-a-top-priority-for-Asia-Thai-PM-Srettha

Just the thin end of the wedge if you ask me. We're doomed. Back in the good old days, when flying was still an adventure and before the masses got involved, flying from Bangor Maine to Prestwick was a long arduous journey made at 26,000 feet, the turbulence at that altitude was fearsome but was part of the thrill for many. It was on one such flight, that was the inaugural flight of a fledgling transatlantic charter airline, that stewardesses dressed the tables with linen table cloths and served the food on real china plates with stainless steel cutlery. It all went swimmingly and without mishap, despite the odd plunge of a dozen meters or more and constant shaking from side to side. And that was just me, the plane was pretty bumpy too! I would often wear my Biggles helmet and goggles which impressed the stews no end, so much so that I ended up marrying one of them, she just couldn't resist me......the bitch, she didn't need a plane, only her broomstick.

My first flight was in 1983 I think, already with 'safer' planes and less service. I found this from 1963 when the passenger was still treated very well indeed.
