Downturn in Chinese spending wrong foots luxury brands in China, LVMH store empty.....doesn't bode well for Thai tourism either, Malaysia and India seem to be the main supporters (Patts was stuffed full of Indians when we stopped by last week).

Hotel costs here are always interesting. IBIS in Patts is our overnighter after a long drive, used to be about 1k a night. Last week we paid 1,7k and the promise of 2.5k if we wanted to stay any night the following week. I don't mind IBIS at 1k a night, I get what I pay for...at 2.5k I don't.

Koh Samed Beach Resort was 3.6k in October, in November it jumps to 4.6k, which is all well and good 'cos it's high season. But there must be 60 bungalows, as well as a new main hotel block rooms etc., there can't have been more than 25 guests plus we literally had the ferry to our selves, both ways! We said we'd stay for two more nights at the old rate but they said no, p**s off.....so we did. 

Anecdotal. In Terminal 21 in Patts., the upper floors were mostly starved of shoppers but the discount area on the ground floor was absolutely heaving, people literally fighting over 50%/60% off discount goods.

As long as you get out of bed and go to work.

The first exit polls:

Voters said the economy and immigration are the top issues facing the country, AP VoteCast found. The survey of more than 110,000 voters nationwide found a country mired in negativity and desperation".

If that sentiment carries through across all states, Harris is toast.

I guess if you're a yank living in yank land, you don't care about things like NATO, Russia, China, oil, war in far off lands etc etc, because you live a million miles away from all of those things, plus you've got a huge military to protect you. So it makes sense that local issues are the ones that sway your vote, even if the person you're voting for is deranged. Hey, this is America after all, we make movies stars President (Reagan) so why not a real estate guy who likes women and cheats a little (don't we all from time to time).
