Yorkies contribution to society has been immense, nay, immeasurable. Why, only the other day I read that it was a Yorkie who saved the planet from significant harm when the CERN particle accelerator was being upgraded, at no small cost I might add. It seems that debris from the manufacturing process remained in the new acceleration tube, which is over one mile long, every time they made a run the debris stopped the process in its tracks and could easily have caused a massive explosion and loss of life. It was a Yorkie scientist on the team who suggested they should clean the accelerator tube by attaching magnets to the back of a ferret and training him (it was a male ferret, a hob, because no female ferrets (jills) were interested in the work) to run the length of tube thus attracting all the metal debris/residue. Only a Yorkie would know about such things since ferrets are happy to run down holes in pursuit of things. The ferret that was used for the job was called Frankie who hails from Saddleworth. All hail Yorkies.

The rating agency, Fitch, has downgraded the US government credit rating from AAA to AA+, a move that was not expected, even though they have been on credit watch for some time. Fitch says, there's a been a deterioration of credit quality and an increase in debt over the past 20 years.
The US Dollar fell on this news which was released about 15 minutes ago, what USD will do next is unclear.

It looks as though this may suspend the current equities markets rally, shame really, things were starting to look quite good.

All hail Yorkies. Sounds like the same twat who facked up my hadron collider. Now they're saying it's out of warranty so not their problem. I'm getting similar shite with this ventilator/iron lung thing and it hasn't helped me sleep at all. Anyway three weeks off it is plenty, tomorrow I'll check if Guinness still tastes the same.

It's interesting watching the real time charts to see where the fall out is from the Fitch downgrade. At this moment, USD appears to be strengthening against GBP and THB, the DI is up past 102. US equities futures on the other hand are having a bend over moment, the VIX fear gauge is up, it looks like money is flowing out of equities and into safe haven USD.....Dollar up, equities down. The sad news is GBP which appears to be taking it from both ends, the FTSE is dropping past -1.50%, and, the Pound is falling against USD and the Baht. Hong Kong and Tokyo equity indices all fell by almost -2.5%.
The fall in the FTSE reflects the S&P Futures and what will happen when Wall Street opens in just under 4 hours. Nobody thinks that GBP is a safe haven currency apparently. Still, it's early days yet and the markets are fickle and prone to rapid change, tomorrow may be a totally different picture.

An interesting observation is that if it proves to be true might possibly affect the currency markets for good or bad. Currently, the Euro is the second most traded currency after the US dollar. The Euro's short-term future looks positive, however, markets and currency traders can be and indeed are fickle. Time alone will tell.

I think this is an article that plays to the US downgrade by Moody's which is now in the forefront of many people's minds, it is in part sensationalism.
I read yesterday that there are only two sovereign entities globally that carry a +AAA rating, Singapore and Norway, everyone else is lower. It makes sense that France would also be lower than the top tier rating which leads to the discussion about the Euro and the emergency fund. But let's not forget that credit ratings come in tiers, +AAA, AAA, -AAA, +AA. AA, -AA, +A, A, -A, +BBB, BBB and -BBB are all investment grade ratings. Just because a country or entity is not +AAA and is instead +A, doesn't mean their credit is junk.
