So who pays almost the equivalent of 100 000 baht for 2 tickets to a Paul McCartney concert in November? And on top of that there's airfares, accommodation, transport.... I'm still trying to justify it.

BOE is raising rates, there goes the FTSE! But it should be good for the Baht exchange rate.

The US jobs report is out and everyone is studying it to try and understand the hidden meanings inside the report. It's a bit like reading tea leaves in the bottom of a cup, aha, I see a lady on a bike wearing a straw hat, that can only mean one thing! The report says, the US added the fewest new job since December 2020. That could mean that interest rate rises are having an effect or it could mean that companies are back up to close to pre-covid strength, or it could mean almost anything you want it to. So, the clear and unambiguous message here is, the jobs report is out, make of it what you will.

An interesting read that talks about global debt and debt to GDP ratio's, amongst other things: "Total U.S. household debt hit a record $17 trillion in the first quarter, New York Fed data shows. And global public debt surged to an all-time high of $92 trillion last year, a 400% increase since 2000, according to a United Nations report released this month. On top of that, government debt-to-GDP ratios have been steadily climbing for decades worldwide. In the U.S., the total public debt-to-GDP ratio hit 118% in the first quarter, according to Federal Reserve data". finance.yahoo.com/news/hedge-fund-titan-watching-black-103000336.html

This article argues that the Pound is now about to fall and go into decline, from 1.27 down to $1.20, where it belongs. This will not be helpful to GBP/THB, trade soon or forever hold your Pounds. Sub 40 is very probable, within one year, regardless of how many letters Mosha writes. finance.yahoo.com/news/pound-glory-days-over-bets-070000865.html

What may prove to be interesting is what may happen in the world of international fiancé in the not-so-distant future should Tronald Dump be elected as the next American president.
Could be some enormous effluent storms and not just in the financial world.
One wonders whether the ''experts'' have factored that probability into their pontifications.
Remember''experts'' know very little about a great deal... ''Specialists'' know a great deal about very little...
Bit like Peace in our time A wonderful comment from a group of experts...

The US elections are 15 months away, November 2024, markets don't look that far ahead, neither does Forex. The economic world will almost certainly look very different from today, in 15 months time, that factor will play a role in the chances of Trump being elected and what he might do if he is. But yes, his second term, if that should happen, will open a whole new sh*t storm of issues. But I think it's too late for the Dollar, alternative trading currencies agendas are too advanced, Asia and the Far East in particular are determined to decouple their economies from USD, quite rightly so. Trumps financial acumen was never his strong point, budget deficits and Dollar weakness will only get worse, on his watch.

Regarding Trump, and the elections: “They’re bringing the charges against Trump so he can’t run against Biden. Biden is so damn crooked. We’ve never had this kind of shit in this United States, ever,” he said. “Democrats are gonna keep riding [Trump’s] ass and bringing shit up against him. They don’t quit. They just don’t like him because he’s draining the swamp, and they don’t like that.” www.theguardian.com/us-news/2023/aug/06/donald-trump-iowa-republicans-2024-electionFootnote: I've been to Iowa, it's far worse than it's neighbours, Wisconsin, Minnesota and Ohio. It's only when you look a little further west into Kansas that things improve slightly. Those states are the brunt of all American jokes, oh, he must be from xxxxx. To say residents of these states are uninformed and mostly poorly uneducated would be very polite. We stayed at a relative's farm back in the 1970's, a visit intended to meet the wider family. The main topic of dinner conversation was that a bell had been attached to the underside of our bed, repeated mention of which brought endless guffaws and knowing winks. The only saving grace is that many of the US intercontinental missile silo's are based there, if ever nuclear war does break out, they will be the primary targets, amen to that. If you ever decide to holiday in the US, give this area a very wide berth.

Bloomberg this morning says:
Bank of Thailand plans measures to promote other currencies, and Baht is among the most volatile currencies in Southeast Asia.
There's nothing new in either of these things, the Baht has always been extremely volatile and subject to swings of up to 3% per day. Part of the reason for this is because it's so heavily traded against so and the Central Bank has tried to resolve that issue by using other currencies for trade. There's a large swap agreement in place currently with China which means that USD is avoided completely for trade with that country. Also, Thailand has joined RCEP, a regional trade group that includes Japan and China and they will not use USD either, RCEP accounts for about 70% of all regional trade. So the future is, a more stable baht and one that is mostly delinked from USD, the question is, at what level.

An interesting read and if the situation is as dire as it seems one wonders what effect(s) if any it may have on or in the international money market(s)

Moving from a single currency that is measured against five currencies, to a basket of currencies that are more globally representative, is the only way to go, that way the things that are measured against the basket are more likely to have a truer value. The problem is that USD is measured against currencies at present that have a strong economic relationship with the US. If some or all of those currencies become unsettled, the impact is felt by smaller currencies and ones that don't have that direct relationship. I think this is a good thing, a very very good thing. For one thing, it prevents the US from pulling the strings that affect the value of other currencies and economies when the reason for doing so is not related directly to economics.

The party most likely to form the next government has said that, if they win, they will hand out 10,000 baht to every Thai person in the country. The current BOT governor is very experienced, well educated in the West and has plenty of hands on experience and he is vehemently opposed to the handout but the money givers won't listen. This is very bad news for everyone, what do people think happens when banks print money! What happens is demand increases, followed by price increases, aka, inflation, followed by interest rate increases. If this is an example of the financial prudence we can expect in the future, best you buy a new tin hat.
