Scientists have now discovered that the chinstrap penguin sleeps for only a few seconds at a time but that it does so 10,000 times a day. I've known people who present in this way, you never knew from one moment to the next whether they were awake, asleep, alive or dead. But apparently it's a very good and healthy thing which I shall attempt to emulate from hereon. Elephants also sleep very little, only about two hours each day and always when standing up. I once had a boss like this! Giant Frigatebirds is another, they spend months flying around the oceans only sleeping for 30 minutes each day, whilst flying no less, but when they return to their nests on land, they sleep for 13 hours or more at a time. I feel that I fit this profile more than the others I reckon, I always was a feast or famine kinda guy. Bears of course do things completely differently. Bears typically sleep for only a few hours each day but in winter they hibernate for up to 7 months at a time whilst not performing any bodily function. This doesn't appeal to me, it brings a whole new meaning to the term, full of sh*t. Perhaps the most interesting of all is the giant turtle which appears to emulate man. It sleeps for 6 or 7 hours a day, basks in the sun and takes naps in the after noon and often lives to be 100 years old.
So why am I rabbiting on about the sleep habits of animals and the like? Well, it's just that I like the term, chinstrap, it strikes me as a fine classy insult, god he's a real chinstrap and they'll never guess what you're talking about.
Plus I was considering my own sleep patterns, somebody else mentioned that they go to sleep at 8pm and wake at 3am, which is almost exactly what I do. I've tried shifting the block of sleep by a few hours but it wont let me, 8pm is bed time and 3 am is wake up time, as far as my body is concerned. I don't mind the 3am part, it's actually my most productive time of the day and always was for decades plus somebody needs to be awake to keep an eye on Oldie to make sure he doesn't get up to mischief.....tjeeze, the stories I could tell!
Yawn, I'm of for a nap.
