I've been doing an oldie, I'm trying to keep my weight under control and man is it hard!
It's now 30 days since my op and 30 days since I started taking thyroid hormones, the trick is to get the dosage right, without piling on the pounds. I've been tracking what I eat and my weight each morning. As my dosage was increased from 0.50 to 0.75, a week later my weight followed, that meant cutting back on the food intake. Today, I'm one pound heavier than when I left hospital a month ago but it wasn't always so, at one point I was 3 kilo's heavier. The big problem is that I now eat a blade of grass for lunch and a dried leaf for dinner, for Xmas lunch I shall have two dried leaves, wheee! Seriously, my diet is so thin that I've stopped taking a dump in the morning because there's nothing for the body to process, it's like, why are you sitting here!
In two weeks I have an appointment with the hormones lady at the hospital, she has told me that my height and weight suggest I should be taking 1.0 of hormones and she may increase my intake. I calculate that if that happens, I shall need to start removing body parts, just to maintain my current weight. I can start with the the bits that aren't too important at first, I reckon a finger a day should work, after which there's the ears, toes and my private bits. Thereafter it's going get tricky. Please excuse my spelling from hereon in, typing with my nose is an art that will take time to learn.
Stay tuned as we embark on this wonderful new adventure, isn't growing older fun!

I've finally figured out that the best way to lose weight is to get out in the hot sun and do some physical work. But bugger that.

Changers amidst a forum of the walking nearly dead you win, although by a fine margin. I am in awe of your resilience. Mind you to give this some context I am in awe of people who can change light bulbs. Invigorated by my morning coffees at the gaff over the road I can now concentrate on the year-end economic review as supplied with today's Post. Might give me some insight into what you gits are on about. Online herberts will probably find a copy with their daily issue.

Might give me some insight into what you gits are on about. Online herberts will probably find a copy with their daily issue. One of the advantages of being my age and having a prominent scar on my throat is that unless I speak first, people quickly assume I am unable to speak. So it was today when I visited the hospital, you know, that place where we walking dead spend all our time. Anyway, I walked up to the desk which was staffed by a gaggle of nubile young things in uniform and handed over my drivers licence but said nothing. Quick as a flash they all assumed I couldn't speak and one started to ask questions, in a very raised voice. There's an assumption that people who can't speak, also can't hear and must be shouted at, I don't know why but there it is. I watched bemusedly as one pushed her way to the front and started to sign me whilst I just smiled and looked on. Meanwhile, another of the nurses had found my appointment on the PC, printed the slip and handed it to me, pointing at me and indicating that I go thata way. So I did, I walked away and said nothing. Later, after I'd seen the doc I walked past the desk on my way out and they all stood there and wai'd, to which I said, thank you ladies, have a great day, and smiled.....and left. Who says old people don't have fun.

I was including myself in the nearly walking dead, not having a dig at the general population. Honest. Because I prefer to suffer silently and not lay my burden on others does not mean I am not suffering. Also I realise I am on thin ice here and trying hard not to cause offence.

I would be horrified if I, or anyone else, ever thought I was laying my burden on others. No, these things that happen to the body, as we grow older are fascinating, I think much more should be set out in detail about the aging process because nobody ever talks about them. I'm not sure why that is, perhaps it's stiff upper lip and all that, perhaps it's fear. If we were all back in Blighty our family GP would be managing them all and cooing soothing reassuring words in our ear, plus, there would be a trusted layer of NHS care to deal with the mechanics of it all. Here there is no such thing, everyday is a new adventure and individuals may or may not have a sound process for dealing with health failures. I work on the basis that the more information that's available, the better.

For me diet is easy although after a while I lose interest and my weight goes up again. Begin of this year I had 107kg, later 99, 104, 101, 97.5 and at the moment 95 or 96. What with Christmas and New Year it'll probably go up again a bit but by end of Jan I aim at 95. A few years ago I got down to 88, probably for all of two days. Unlike CM I'd like a bit more than a blade of grass for brunch and a leave for supper.

I appreciate you telling us about any health concerns. We never know what's around the corner. I swallow my own spit and put on 4 kg. It doesn't even make mathematical sense.

Changers I wasn't sayimg you were putting a burden on anynody. FFS trying to be ironic and self-effacing tends to get taken wrong online. We are largely (but far from totally) a community of the ageing with the accompanying problems. And I said ageING not ageD. Anyway I am off to the dentist to sort somrthing that should have been done a while ago. The twats I used last time annoyed me so much that I lost interest. These new ones so far have an excellent accounting system, add it up, mount it up and bump it up.

I'm dyslexic and demented, as well as being retarded so I don't always get the gist of what people are saying, I no longer do subtlety, I need sledge hammer and pile driver tactics, short words and kiddie speak helps also. Your dentist sounds like my doctor/hospital visit yesterday. Despite me giving him a CD containing a very revet MRI in high res., he ordered 3 X-rays of the same areas. That cost me 1,300 baht plus his fee to look at them, 320 baht, in addition to his consultation fee of 500 baht. All told the visit cost me 2,100 baht, for which I received nada, zero, nothing by way of useful advice or information. This morning I was still brooding about it all so I fired an exocet in their direction. The reply came back, "We have acknowledged your concern and understand any difficulties this circumstance may cause. I will pass your message to the department involved to be review and improve our services to provide a better our service in the future', all of which sounds suspiciously like, go ferk yerself farang, we've got your money, p**s off.

Well, I guess at least you've got three nice new X-rays of interesting CM internals. You did ask for them, didn't you? If not, go get them and don't believe it when they say "contaminated material, destroyed already".
