The dentist trip went well and the cost although horrendous was at the lower end of expectations. Do many dentists have a concert grand piano in the waiting room.? New one to me.

The doctor asked me for a urine, stool, sperm and stool sample, so I left my undies on the counter. Ok, it's old and we've all heard it before.

The best one was Ronnie Barker in Porage resonding to the prison doctor who asked fot a urine sample. You had to see it. No point explaining it. Think I'll risk going to the coffee gaff. Not too cold now, no need for an extra pair of pyjamas, just the one pair will do.

I had a workmate who asked his wife for sex and she told him that she has an appointment with the gynecologist and she wanted to stay clean for him. So he replied "Do you have an appointment with the dentist too?"

I went for my five week meds and blood checks yesterday. Despite dieting like crazy I was gaining weight and the consensus view was that I am under medicated and that my FT4 levels are still too low. A small but important gland inside the brain monitors TSH levels in the body and when TSH is too high, it sends a memo to the thyroid telling it to increase FT4 production. The first part works OK but in my case, the thyroid never receives the memo because it's sat in a jar of formaldehyde some 30 miles away. You'd have thought the surgeon would have installed a buzzer or a flashing light to let me know there's a memo waiting from this gland but no, there's nothing. The only way you find out about this is when you go for a blood test or if you fall down dead. It's definitely not a good systems design.
Anyway, because this memo is never received, the body doesn't know what to do with food or how to metabolize it, the result is that even the smallest amount of food gets converted to fat and stored. Now that we've had the blood test and we understand the problem, the meds dosage has been increased and the gland has been told to STFU. This should mean that everything starts to work normally but honestly, we wont know for another five more weeks because there's a time lag between taking meds and them having an effect on metabolism. I mean honestly, if this were a factory, the workers would have gone on strike or the owners would have sold it by now. I'm strongly considering asking the surgeon to reinstall my thyroid because the new way of doing things just isn't working well.

I'm under 100kg for the first time in 10 years. I'm just plain sweating it out. And no beer. And trying to eat a bit more sensible.

This evening New Year party by BBL - IT. Always nice food, entertainment, no alcohol. Tomorrow dinner with family. I'm afraid my diet will start Sunday.

Still OK considering that one of the alternatives is 'we, your friends' getting drunk at your wake.

Well done, keep at it and don't give in. I shall try but I strugvle to drink more than 12 pints now without giving up. Turning 50 has definitely had a minor effect on my drinking ability.
