So yesterday I encountered my first snake close up in my utility room behind the kitchen (its also my weed smokejouse and hide from the fire breathing dragon room). I thought it was green...her indoors thought black n white....I said it was maybe a foot long and tiny...she reckoned six feet with huge fangs . Snake guy came...couldn't find it....but then a miracle happened. Two separate mangoes arrived with their family and secured the outside...then Tony spoke to it in parseltongue and offered it a 2 week break in Hong Kong over New Year....out it popped from behind the washing machine wearing its sunnies. I don't speak the lingo but as it got into the taxi I'm sure I heard the <duck>er mutter to Tony about airmiles and a biz lounge cheeky wee <c**t>!

We came across a blue tongue lizard about a foot long yesterday on a walking track. All the foreigners were screaming like Sheila's. The poor little thing was petrified. I held the fort until he was out of harm's way.

As mentioned last night, your brief discription could indicate that it could have been a juvenile King Cobra. Interesting facts that I know about the King Cobra (honestly from my personal knowledge stash and not Googled). 1. The species name for the King Cobrs is Ophiophagus Hannah, in Greek Ophiophagus means snake-eating and Hannah refers to Greek mythilogical Nymphs that live in trees. 2. Normal Cobras grow to around 6 feet and can raise up about one third of their body, so their maximum strike range is about 2 feet. An adult King Cobra can grow to 18 feet and can raise up about two thirds of their body, so their maximum strike range can be up to 12 feet. 3. The King Cobra's Venom is a neurotoxin, which is potent enough to kill an elephant. In short, I don't know much but I have always been fascinated by these magnificent creatures.

I was out the front of the in-laws swinging back and forth on a hammock tied to a tree. Every time I swung one way the sister in law who doesn't speak a word of English was smacking the ground under the hammock with a branch. There was a cobra striking at my fat arse every time I swung past.

We've had hatchling KCs in the house courtesy of the cats. Juvenile venomous snakes can be deadlier than adults. Adults can dry bite, it's an ability that comes with age.

I hate snakes with a passion. Give me a 6 inch spider over a 6 inch snake anytime. At least spiders are furry and friendly. Snakes are just pure evil.

We've had hatchling KCs in the house courtesy of the cats. Juvenile venomous snakes can be deadlier than adults. Adults can dry bite, it's an ability that comes with age. Before coming to Thailand, I lived on Lantau Island, the biggest outlying island in Hong Kong. After living there for a short time, I had heard about a legend of a Brit who lived on a very remote part of the island, who was known as ‘The snake-man of Lantau’, an amateur Herpetologist, who in his spare time would walk along the water catchment areas (like dry concrete canals) and rescue snakes that had fallen into the catchments. He would release the caught snakes into the mountain areas. As mentioned above, this snake-man was just a legend. A few years later, I worked with this legend and learned that his name was Tim and we quickly became very close friends. The more I got to know Tim, the more fascinated I was with him, he was a very interesting character and very knowledgeable. Tim was a walking encyclopedia and he was always open to sharing his learned knowledge. This was at a time before knowledge was found on the internet, if you wanted to find out a fact, you had to read it from a book (imagine). After I had moved to Thailand, Tim came to visit and became my house guest for a few months. During that time, he collected 4 snakes as pets, which we kept in glass fish tanks. One of these snakes was a juvenile King Cobra and as Tim was staying at my house, I managed to pick up a few facts about them, hence my knowledge of the subject. As you mentioned, juvenile venomous snakes can be deadlier than adults and this is certainly the case for King Cobras. The juvenile King Cobra produces more venom, as a defense mechanism.

Just after writing the above post, I walked out onto my roof area and there was a juvenile milipede on the wall, only a couple of inches long. Those things scare me more than any snake would, they are proof that either Lucifer is real or God is an evil tyrant.
